The Sacrificial Love of God
“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John 4:10)
Where there is genuine love, sacrifice often follows. God demonstrated the greatest expression of love by giving His only Son, Jesus Christ, for the salvation of humanity.
Jesus, who was without sin, willingly gave His life for our sins so that everyone who believes in Him can be reconciled to God and receive the gift of eternal life. There is no greater expression of love and sacrifice than this.
God’s love and sacrifice are extended to all people. From the beginning, sin separated humanity from God. Through the disobedience of one man, Adam, sin and brokenness entered the world. However, Jesus Christ, the “second Adam,” came to redeem humanity and restore what was lost.
Through His death and resurrection, Christ defeated the power of sin and opened the way for humanity to receive forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life. His sacrifice demonstrates that God’s love is not merely expressed in words but through action.
The cross remains the greatest proof of God’s sacrificial love: Jesus gave Himself for us so that we could be brought back to God.
How to receive the sacrificial love of God
Out of love, Jesus sacrificed Himself for us, and this gift of salvation is available to all. It must be received by faith. Here is how to receive it:
1.Admit
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
We must acknowledge our sinful condition and come by faith to the throne of grace to receive mercy (Hebrews 4:16).
2 . Believe in Jesus Christ
We must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who died for our sins and rose again (John 3:16).
This means believing in His virgin birth, sinless life, death on the cross, resurrection, and ascension. It means trusting in the finished work of Christ and believing that His sacrifice is sufficient to save us from death and give us eternal life.
3.Repentance
Repentance is a sincere turning away from sin and turning to God.
True repentance is not merely a change of words but a transformation of the heart that produces a life of obedience to God.
4.Confession
We must confess Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9–10).
Confessing His lordship means surrendering our lives to Him, acknowledging His authority, and trusting Him as the only source of our salvation.
How to Express Our Love and Sacrifice to God.
As believers, we respond to God’s love by how we live. He showed His love by sending Jesus to die for our sins (1 John 4:9–10), and we show our love through action, not just words.
The Bible says, “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:18). Our love for God is seen in how we live, serve, worship, and treat others.
1. Present your life to God
We show our love to God by surrendering our lives to Him. Jesus said, “By their fruits you shall know them” (Matthew 7:20).
Believers are called to live differently, transformed by God’s Word (Romans 12:2), so that our identity in Christ is seen in our conduct (Acts 11:26).
Loving God means allowing Him to guide our choices and daily lives.
2. Dedicate Your Time,Energy,and Resources to God.
Loving God requires commitment. We honor Him through prayer, His Word, worship, and service.
We also give our resources to support His work and help others, recognizing that everything we have comes from Him.
True love for God is shown by seeking Him first and using what we have for His purposes (Matthew 6:33).
3. Love Others
Loving God is reflected in how we love others. Jesus said that loving God and loving our neighbors are the greatest commandments (Matthew 22:37–39).
We demonstrate this love through kindness, forgiveness, compassion, and sharing the gospel. We cannot claim to love God while hating others (1 John 4:20).
4. Live a life of Worship
Worship is a lifestyle of obedience and devotion, not just singing songs or attending church.
We honor God by offering our whole lives to Him as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1), making every part of our lives an act of worship.
Jesus died for both the Jews and the Gentiles not for a few people, but for us all. If Jesus gave His life for everyone, then our greatest response is to embrace His love and sacrifice, receive His gift of salvation by faith, and live a life that reflects our gratitude for His great love.
