Sermon

lightbulb Message Summary - Key Nuggets

  • Anything you are looking for that is not with you now is hiding somewhere — not non-existent.
  • What you lose does not define you; what defines you is how you bounce back after loss.
  • Courage is not having strength to go on — courage is going on even when there is no strength.
  • Helpers are not only those who are financially established; even those at the floor level can be appointed to preserve you.

Locating Hidden Blessings

1 Samuel 30:15-16, 18-20 — David said to the Egyptian servant, "Can thou bring me down to this company?" When he had brought him down, they found the Amalekites spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking and dancing because of the great spoils. And David recovered all that Amalek had carried away. There was nothing lacking to them — neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, spoil nor anything they had taken.

Anything you are looking for that is not with you now is hiding somewhere. Do not ever think it is non-existent. It is in existence — but it is hiding.

Hebrews 11:6 — "Without faith it is impossible to please God; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."

Even demons believe that He is — James 2:19. So your reward is not just knowing that He is. Your reward is in diligently seeking Him. Many quote 1 Corinthians 15:10 — "I am what I am by the grace of God" — without finishing the verse: "I laboured more abundantly than they all." Paul said the grace he enjoyed was a function of deliberate effort and deliberate intensity placed on revelation.

David and the Loss of Ziklag

David had an emotional connection to Ziklag. Everywhere else he went, Saul came after him. In Ziklag, he found respite. He brought his wives. He had children. He dwelt and ruled from there. Then one day, before he returned from war — the Amalekites had taken captive his wives and his children and burned the city with fire.

The greatest hit is an attack on family.

David wept. The Bible says the men wept until they had no more power to weep. Then his own men began to speak of stoning him. But:

1 Samuel 30:6 — "David encouraged himself in the Lord his God."

Are you aware God lost angels — and He is still God? What you lose does not define you. What defines you is what you do after your loss.

  • Courage is not having strength to go on. Courage is going on even when there is no strength.

  • You never know how courageous you are until the only option you have left is to stay courageous.
  • No matter what you lost maritally, materially, career-wise, in your profession, in your finances, in your health — you will bounce back.

Key One — Find a Success (A Helper)

David found a man — an Egyptian, stranded, who had not eaten for three days. David fed him and the man led him straight to the Amalekite camp.

Stop envisaging helpers as only those who have arrived financially. Even those at the floor level can help you. Do not despise nobody.

Psalm 17:14 — Men are the hands of God. Anytime you say "Lord, stretch Your hand," you are saying "God, send a man." The highest point of the prodigal son's crisis was Luke 15:16 — "And no man gave to him." It is not a virtue that nobody has ever favored you. It is a pain.

This man gave David only one thing — information. But information was enough to recover everything.

Never betray trust. You can't fix it when it's broken.

  • We have many prayer warriors. Many worshippers. Many who speak in tongues. But few can be trusted.
  • Be a person who can be trusted — in life, in marriage, in ministry, in business.

Key Two — Build Strength Through the Word

1 Samuel 30:7-8 — David inquired of the Lord: "Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them?" God answered: "Pursue — for thou shalt surely overtake them and without fail recover all."

When you are in pursuit of recovery, courage is an element. But so is inquiring of God. Many charge into recovery without a word from God. David did not move until he had a word.

Key Three — Insist on Equity in Distribution

1 Samuel 30:21-25 — When David returned with the spoil, the men of Belial among those who had stayed behind said the two hundred who were too faint to cross the brook should receive nothing. David refused. He established an ordinance: those who stay by the supplies share equally with those who go into battle.

The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. It is not enough to have the earth — you must have the fullness.

There are people living on the earth with no fullness, no color, no flavor, no value in their lives. God will give you fullness. God will give you value.

Everything hiding that should come to you — the Lord releases it to you. Access. Success. Excess. Helpers will help you. Those heaven has ordained to favor you — their eyes are opened. Decisions will favor you. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
