God's Clear Agenda for Man

The life that Christ has given us to live is to the glory of the Father. When you study the Bible, you see that God always had a very clear agenda for His world, for the universe He created, and for man in particular — a very definite purpose. We do not live for nothing.

The most important thing for a human being to do in this world is to discover their purpose. Their reason for being. Many people live long lives and die without ever discovering their purpose. Whether things turn out well or badly makes no difference if you never find out why you are here. To move the way the world moves you — according to circumstances — is one of the most terrible things in life. A life of emptiness brings frustration that only you alone would know in your heart.

But when you discover your purpose — not one that you assume, but one based on a true relationship with God — then you can confidently say, "I know my reason for life." And when you discover it by the help of the Holy Spirit, He will help you fulfill it. He promised to.

Sometimes there are those who are already in the line of their calling without knowing it. But on that journey there will be adversaries and adversities. If you are not connected with the One who knows what must be done to go beyond those points, your journey can be truncated. That is why fellowship with the Spirit of God who created you and determined the greater purpose for your life is non-negotiable.

This Is the Month of Focus

Focus is the concentration of attention or energy — a convergence on something. This month is the month of focus.

2 Corinthians 4:18 — while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. The Passion Translation puts it: because we don't focus our attention on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but the unseen realm is eternal.

The unseen realm is real. The unseen is in His Word. His Word communicates to us the reality of the unseen realm. Our physical eyes may not capture those things, but our spirits can. So we set our hearts on the eternal.

Proverbs 4:25-27 (NIV) — let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet, and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or to the left. Keep your foot from evil.

Philippians 3:13-14 (AMPC) — I do not consider that I have captured and made it my own yet. But this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

James 1:8 — a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. Instability leads to weakness and failure. Be focused.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV) — do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly. I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Isaiah 26:3 (NIV) — You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You. Is your mind focused on the Lord? You will be at peace. Those who are double-minded are often restless.

Make Jesus Your Focus

2 Timothy 2:8 (Passion Translation) — make Jesus the anointed one your focus in life and ministry.

Hebrews 12:2 (Passion Translation) — we look away from the natural realm and we fasten our gaze onto Jesus who births faith within us and who leads us forward into faith's perfection. His example is this: because His heart was focused on the joy of knowing that we would be His, He endured the agony of the cross. He was looking at the future. In spite of the agony and humiliation, He focused on the joy of knowing that we were His prize — and He won.

He won for all of us. Stay focused on the Lord. Stay focused on the things He asked you to do. Refuse to be distracted.

Joshua 1:7-8 (NIV) — be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth. Meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Stay on the Word. Do not be swayed to the right or to the left. Stay focused and you will be successful wherever you go.

Be Involved in the Evangelization of the World

Remember, Christ must be your focus in everything. It does not matter what your business is. Christ must be the center. And being focused on Christ means being involved in what He is doing in the world. It becomes your job the moment you become a Christian — not somebody else's job.

Every one of us, throughout the world, must be involved in the evangelization of the world. Irrespective of your calling, irrespective of your business, irrespective of your social class — it makes no difference. You have to be involved.

Father, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. I receive your grace to stay focused on you and on the things you have asked me to do. I refuse every distraction. My mind is steadfast. And because it is steadfast, I receive your perfect peace. In Jesus name, amen.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
