Blessing: the totality of divinity

Genesis 27

Jacob took the blessing that belonged to Esau, the firstborn. When Isaac realized what had happened, he said, "All that Jacob took, he took. There's nothing I can do." The blessing could not be undone once it was given.

Genesis 33

Jacob later told Esau, "I have more than enough," refusing his gifts. The blessing is not attached to what people can take from you.

What the blessing is

• Blessing is the totality of divinity, the grandeur and elevation of God
• Blessing is not money, but it encompasses money and the entirety of a person's personality
• Blessing is what results from total surrender to God

2 Corinthians 9:6

God is able to make grace abound so that in everything you have all you need.

Blessing versus work

• There is dignity in work, but work does not make a person rich
• Work is for paying bills and for eating; a person cannot get rich on a salary alone
• Blessing is when God opens a boulevard of opportunity and gives continuous surplus, a flow that cannot be copied because it comes from above

A mother's sacrifice, a sudden loss

A woman raised a son alone after being abandoned, selling her jewelry and clothes to put him through school. He finished his education, got a job offer at an oil company, and was excited to start work. Driving there for the first time, he was the only one to die in a car accident.

People are quick to judge by one weakness, forgetting the good in a person's life. A man can have a degree, a good job, and a beautiful family, and still be defined by one misfortune.

Deliverance from a spirit of destruction

A father called for prayer for his son, who could not be without a sharp object in his hand and had threatened to kill anyone who came near him. When the preacher approached, the young man resisted, then gave up the objects and was delivered, falling under the power of God. That same evening he was back in service.

John 10:10

The devil comes only to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life.

Speaking in tongues at the outpouring

When the Holy Spirit came, believers began to speak in other languages, and people understood them in their own tongue. Learning a language naturally takes time, frustration, and repetition, but the outpouring of the Spirit allows people to speak and be understood instantly. That is the definition of the outpouring: a blessing that bypasses the natural process.
