2 Corinthians 1:20, 2 Peter 3:9.

The assignment of this teaching is to culture you to live by the word and to grow your confidence in the integrity of God's word. The believer's excelling in this kingdom does not just depend on what Christ has done. It depends on your belief in what he has done and the ability to place your faith and your confidence in God's word. God's word must gain supremacy in your mind and become final authority if you desire to walk in victory, in dominion, and in a life of purpose and greatness. In Matthew 4:4 Jesus, responding to Satan, said it is written that man shall not live by bread alone. Bread here means that which is of man-made origin, but we also live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord.

There are many believers who wonder why their lives are not able to capture victory and experience. Some are knowledgeable of scripture as far as Bible memory is concerned. They quote high, lofty, truthful verses, but they are not able to trap within their lives an experience of perpetual victory. Not circumstantial victory, not once-in-a-while victory, but victory that demonstrates the dominion power of the word. It is God's desire that all of us, in mass, step into that reality of the word of God made manifest, that we derive maximum profit from God's word.

The Infallibility of Scripture

When considering a delicate subject like the word of God, it is important to prove the infallibility of scripture. The word infallible speaks of accuracy and potency. When we say the word of God is infallible, we mean it is, number one, accurate, and number two, potent. The Bible is an inspired resource that contains an accurate revelation of God to man and of God's program through the ages. It comes from the Greek word biblio. A related word is graphe, which means an inspired, documented text, a book.

There is a difference between scripture and the word of God. The Bible is a compendium of the thoughts of God, but not everything in the Bible qualifies to be called the word of God. Everything written in the Bible was inspired of the Holy Ghost, but not every content in it qualifies to be called the word of God.

The infallibility of scripture is not in its historic, intellectual, archaeological, or linguistic accuracy:

• Not historic accuracy. If you probe the Bible as a religious text, it is possible you may find historic errors, dates, or presentations of facts.
• Not intellectual accuracy. There are parts that, read intellectually, may insult the mind of the natural man. How do you explain five loaves and two fish feeding five thousand with twelve baskets remaining? How do you explain Jonah in the belly of the fish, or the incarnation, that a virgin gave birth to a child called Savior? Read intellectually, it suggests someone is playing with your intelligence.
• Not archaeological accuracy. Because it is an aggregate of many authors, at least forty of them over a span of 1,600 years, and was canonized through a delicate process, it is possible to find archaeological errors.
• Not linguistic accuracy. You do not study the Bible to learn English. It was not written in English. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew with a little Latin, and the New Testament in Greek and sometimes Aramaic. English is young and, from the standpoint of revelation, limited. That is why we have over one hundred versions, each attempting to bring contextual clarity and correct the limitation of English.

Scripture is infallible in its ability to accurately reveal God, to reveal Jesus Christ, to reveal man's sinful condition alongside God's plan of salvation, and to reveal man's eternal destiny. No other documented material gives so thorough a revelation of who God is. Other religious texts speak of him as one of many gods; only the Bible gives God that exclusivity, branding him in a class all by himself. It accurately reveals Jesus Christ. It intelligently describes man's sinful condition, for Romans 3:23 does not make sense until you trace what happened to man from the fall. It unveils the plan of salvation, both prophetically, that the lamb was slain from the foundations of the earth, and historically, as Jesus came, died, was buried, rose, and ascended. By the spirit Paul was given greater theological perspective, according to Ephesians 3:3, to communicate the mystery of Christ. And it reveals the new-found status of the believer, that if any man be in Christ he is a new creation, and the destiny of those who are in Christ and those who willfully reject him.

Two Reasons the Bible Is to Be Trusted

1. The miraculous unity of its authors. At least forty different men wrote sixty-six books in at least three languages over 1,600 years, and their thoughts, aggregated into one unified material, largely do not conflict. Reading the Bible you would think Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Amos were relatives from the same family, but some never knew each other. When you put all their thoughts together, there was a straight line pointing to the same thing. That already tells you the hand of God is upon that inspired material. And not all of them were priests or preachers; some were businessmen, kings, nobles, scribes, and ordinary people.
2. The fulfillment of its prophecies. In Matthew 3:3, Isaiah spoke of the voice of one crying in the wilderness years before, and John the Baptist manifested it, though Isaiah never knew the person would be called John. In Matthew 2:17, Jeremiah heard the lamentation in Rama long before the children were killed on account of Jesus. In Matthew 4:14, Isaiah's word about Zebulun and Naphtali and the people who sat in darkness seeing a great light was a revelation of the coming of Jesus. As Acts 3:18 says, God showed these things by the mouth of all his prophets. Every true prophet who came by the spirit said at least one thing that pointed to the revelation of God, to man's condition, to Jesus, to salvation, or to eternal destiny.

Take John, called the greatest prophet. By volume of prophecy he said very little, only, Behold the lamb that takes away the sins of the world. Yet the Bible calls him the greatest, because a prophet is honored not merely for the capacity to foretell but for the capacity to trap realities that concern the plan of salvation and reveal them to people. There were other prophets, like the prophets of Baal, who did much foretelling but were interested in nothing connected to the plan of salvation.

The Three Layers of Scripture

There are three layers in studying scripture so that you have profitable understanding:

• The historic or archaeological layer. Even a non-Christian, if open-hearted, can study the Bible as a historic or archaeological material and find useful knowledge for academic work.
• The doctrinal layer. From doctrina in Latin and didascalia in Greek, it means an instruction, precepts that empower a student to assume the status of his master through knowledge. All scripture is profitable, but it is not most edifying if you stop at the historic level.
• The prophetic layer. Here the Holy Ghost can breathe upon seemingly unconnected verses and give unusual understanding, becoming a rhema word applicable to you alone. You cannot create a doctrine out of it, but it can become life, direction, and light unique to your experience.

The Bible is a compendium of at least sixty-six separate yet related books, written by over forty authors across about 1,600 years: thirty-nine books in the Old Testament and twenty-seven in the New. All scripture is God-breathed, meaning God breathed upon men to write accurately. But inspiration was about accuracy in the writing, not agreement with every thought written. When men wrote that Satan said a thing, the Holy Ghost inspired them to write it, but it does not mean the idea Satan presented was of God.

What Is the Word of God?

Jesus gave a slight difference between scripture and the word. In Luke 24:25 he said the scriptures testify of him, the Word. Scripture speaks of inspired documented writings, but there are three definitions of the word of God according to scripture:

1. The word of God is Jesus himself, the living logos. John 1:1 says in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Your greatest understanding of God's word should not be truths contained within a book but a person, the Savior himself. It personifies the Word: all things were made by him, and in him was life, and that life was the light of men. Colossians 1:15 confirms that by him were all things created, whether visible or invisible, and they were created for him.
2. The word of God is a compendium of the thoughts of God. An aggregate of God's idea about all matters, again from the word logos. The only portion of scripture you can call the word of God is any thought consistent with the way God thinks and operates. The story of Satan's deception is scripture, because it was inspired, but it is not the word of God, because it does not contain the way God behaves. All portions of scripture profit, but only the life-giving portion, that which is consistent with the thoughts of God, is the word of God, capable of ministering life, wisdom, and quickening.
3. The word of God is the direct speakings of God. This includes the speakings of God beyond the scope of the Bible, for God has not stopped speaking. It is called the rhema of God. The word of God is largely contained in the Bible but is not limited to it. If the Holy Ghost speaks the counsel of God to me now, what he has communicated is the word of God, even though I cannot find it verbatim in scripture. But because it comes through a frail vessel, it must be tested by the word of God already proven, for we prophesy in part according to 1 Corinthians 13:9, and Satan can appear as an angel of light. If what I heard is inconsistent with the written word, no matter how convinced I am, I must dump it and stay with that which is written.

From a theological standpoint there are four expressions of the word of God:

• Graphe. The generic inspired writings that made it into the Bible, a text that is profitable and can bring awareness and enlightenment.
• Logos. Twofold: God himself as the living, working expression of the Father's thoughts, and the portion of scripture that contains the life, ways, and wisdom of God.
• Rhema. A bespoke, revealed word that the Holy Ghost breathes through a letter of scripture to bring a unique solution to you. It cannot be made doctrinal, because it attends to your unique need.
• The sent word. A dimension of God's word that brings supernatural manifestations, healings, and deliverances. As Psalm 107:20 and Isaiah 55:11 declare, he sent forth his word and it healed them, and his word shall not return to him void but shall accomplish the purpose for which he sent it.

The Nature and Character of the Word of God

If it is truly the word of God, it must do the following:

1. The word of God is creative Genesis 1:3, Hebrews 11:3, Psalm 33:6, John 1:3

   God said, let there be light, and there was light. Through faith we understand the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things seen were not made of things that appear. The raw material is nothing; from nothing God can make something. Even when you are reduced to nothing, you bring the word of God there, for nothing is still a raw material if it is the word of God.

2. The word of God is corrective 2 Timothy 3:16

   All scripture is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be matured and thoroughly furnished unto all good works. When you deviate from the path of righteousness, the word sustains the power to realign you. That is the original understanding of repentance: to align yourself to the standard.

3. The word of God is revelatory and prophetic Psalm 119:130, Hebrews 4:12

   The entrance of his words gives light and understanding unto the simple. Light here is beyond intelligence, even though it adds to it. The word is quick and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the dividing of soul and spirit, and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Whatever can divide the marrow and discern the content of a man's heart must be prophetic.

4. The word of God is transformative Acts 20:32, 1 John 5:13

   The word of his grace is able not only to give you light but to build you up and give you an inheritance among them that are sanctified. It can impart the mind of Christ and alter your belief system. The word know here is epignosis, to come into oneness with knowledge, incapable of doubting it again, so that it is no longer mere information but has become one with you, inseparable.

5. The word of God quickens and empowers Ezekiel 2:1, Habakkuk 3:3

   The word said, son of man, stand upon your feet, and the spirit entered into him and set him upon his feet. Not just the words, the spirit entered in and quickened him. God's power hides in his light; when you find his light, you find his power. His brightness was like the sunlight, rays streaming from his hand, and there in the sunlike splendor was the hiding place of his power.

How to Be Built by the Word

Many believers know how to receive the word but do not know how to be built by it. As Acts 20:32 says, the word is able to build us up. In Acts 6:4 the apostles said they would give themselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. There are three major ways to be built by the word:

1. Intentional and consistent study of scripture 2 Timothy 3:15, 2 Timothy 2:15

   From a child, Timothy knew the holy scriptures which are able to make you wise unto salvation. He began as a child, but because he settled down to engage scripture, he was later called the man of God. Study means to give attention, to be intentional, to investigate and consult other materials to broaden your understanding. Many believers are lazy when it comes to investing in the word and are stunted because their spiritual knowledge bank is small. Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

   • It is a laborious demonstration of faith to sit down and open this Bible while others are sleeping. Let every man and woman of God trust for grace to be doctrinally sound, intelligent in understanding, and able to communicate light.

2. Listening to scripture as a habit Luke 11:28, Romans 10:17

   Blessed, meaning empowered to become, are they that hear the word of God and keep it. You cannot keep what you do not hear. Faith comes by hearing: zero hearing, zero faith; serious hearing, serious faith. Our generation is privileged with technological devices that aid listening. Rather than wasting time in traffic in anger, you can have the word spoken to you. This is how our fathers were built. Do not become so sophisticated that you despise listening as elementary.

   • It is called homologia, to repeat as you have heard. The word says I am blessed, and I repeat, I am blessed. The word says I am healed, and I say, I am healed. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.
   • Minimize listening to nonsense. Do not pollute your spirit until you begin to doubt the word. When a medical report gives its educated opinion, you have a responsibility to fight the fight of faith, and it starts by listening to what the word says over you.

3. Confessions of faith and faith-filled declarations Numbers 14:28, Psalm 107:2, Ezekiel 37:7, Romans 10:8, Joshua 1:8, Isaiah 8:20

   As you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so; you cannot win in this kingdom when you are silent, for your advantage is your speaking. In Ezekiel's valley, the prophet prophesied as he was commanded, and there was a noise, a shaking, and bone came to his bone. The word is nigh you, in your mouth and in your heart; with the heart man believes, but with the mouth confession is made. This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; as you meditate day and night, you begin to mutter and to speak. To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Those who carry light are not silent.

Six Keys to Making the Word Yes and Amen

It is not enough to know God can do it or that he has done it in Christ. It is possible to be aware that God has finished it in Christ, yet it never manifests in your life. As 2 Peter 1:4 says, we are given exceeding great and precious promises that by these we might be partakers of the divine nature. There are six keys responsible for making the promises manifest, for making them yes and amen:

1. You must know what the promises are Ephesians 1:3

   You must know what the divine provisions and supernatural resources are, and that they are available for you in Christ. God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. Blessings, healing, health, victory, dominion, and advancement; that you are the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, indomitable in Christ. Though you fall seven times, you can rise again, for there is hope for a tree, that at the scent of water it will sprout.

2. You must know the participatory conditions connected to manifesting the promises Leviticus 9:6

   This is the thing which the Lord commanded that you should do, and the glory of the Lord shall appear unto you. The dynamics of appropriating healing differ from the dynamics of prospering financially, which differ from commanding kingdom influence or appropriating longevity. If God says he is lifting you, you must understand the laws of influence: honor, prayer, and humility. One who walks in pride will never have the lifting power of Jesus, for God opposes the proud. When you lift him high, he lifts you so you will have more opportunity to lift him high, as in John 17:1, that the Son might glorify the Father. So you may keep confessing your heritage to rise, and it may never come to pass, because you have violated the conditions connected to appropriating it.

3. You must engage the word in prayer Mark 11:24

   Whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them. There is no issue of concern that you should not pray about. Present your cause, says the Lord; bring forth your strong reasons. I spent a major part of the morning praying over this teaching and this song, for that it has come does not guarantee it will bless. What you see is not just God's intention but profitable partnership with the word of God. Take everything to God in prayer.

4. You must release your faith through obedience 1 Samuel 15:22

   Obedience to God's word is the only way to commit God's integrity to manifest his power in your life. To obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams. No amount of sacrifice or spirituality will replace obedience. Many believers will fulfill all spiritual activities minus obedience; some try to give a seed to bribe God in place of prayer, but it does not work that way.

   • Obedience can look childishly simple. Fill the six pots with water and take it to the ruler; that is the instruction connected to turning water to wine. The man of thirty-eight years at Bethesda had to rise up, take up his bed, and walk. The blind man had to go to Siloam and wash before he returned seeing. His anger at Jesus would not have opened his eyes.
   • Ask for the grace for delightsome obedience, and obedience on time. Like Abraham, who rose early in the morning when God instructed him concerning Isaac.

5. Thanksgiving Philippians 4:6

   Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known. Thank him in advance as an act of faith, for you know your eyes will see his salvation. My eyes have not yet seen it manifest, but I know they will, therefore I thank you in advance, because your word can be trusted.

6. Patience Hebrews 6:15

   After he had patiently endured, Abraham obtained the promise. Many believers have been cheated right here. Sometimes when it looks like God delays, he is clearing what would make the blessing a waste if it came earlier, sending away the giants that would frustrate it. It is dangerous, as Psalm 71:21 implies, to have greatness increased with no comfort on every side. God is not slack concerning his promises, as some men count slackness. Every time you rush God, you give birth to what fights your blessing; impatience gives birth to Ishmael, but God will still give you Isaac if you wait. And the closer you come to the end of the waiting season, the greater the temptation to compromise, because Satan senses your wilderness is about to wrap up. There is a patience of faith, for as Isaiah 40:31 promises, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.

What Yes and Amen Means

According to 2 Corinthians 1:20, all the promises of God in Christ are yes and amen. There are three implications:

1. All the promises are already finished in Christ

   Spiritual realities, your blessings, everything that makes for life and godliness, is already finished in Christ. Your healing, your health, your tomorrow, finished in Christ. He declares the end from the beginning; God finishes before he starts. Everything required for you to serve the purposes of the kingdom in victory and dominion is already finished in Christ.

2. The power of God is already available to bring it to pass Acts 10:38

   The power responsible for translating divine realities into manifestation is already on ground, residing with the Holy Spirit and available to the saints on demand. The power of God always and only goes the direction of the will of God, the direction of the word of God. If God is healing, his power goes the direction of healing; if he is lifting, it goes the direction of lifting. The assignment of the power of God is to make manifest that which God has said. You can be a Christian, but if you are not a believer, a receiver, and an obedient practitioner, you will not see the word manifest.

   • God did not just give you a message or a mandate; he gave you power. He said you shall receive power. You will fail if you go with the message alone. Do not doubt a man who knows he has power from God. Do not look down on David, for there is power on that sling; nor on Samson, Joseph, Esther, Deborah, or Ruth. Stop looking down on yourself.
   • The power is a trigger; wait for it to arrive. The power to get wealth, the power for kingdom influence, let it arrive, and see what door to what nation will not open. When it arrives, be careful what you say, for the one doing business by the Holy Ghost is not to be spoken against carelessly.

3. It always requires divine partnership to make the promises manifest

   Saying yes and amen is beyond a declaration; it is the receiver agreeing to the responsibility of divine partnership. God desired Jesus to come, and Mary donated her womb. The one who decides to partner with God is the one who will finally see promises manifest. He is at work in you both to will and to do, but it is your responsibility to believe and to come into that partnership. Saying yes to prophecy does not bring it to pass; you must also say yes to the doing grace, aligning in prayer, in obedience, and by keeping the principles that make good what he has said.

When God truly sends you, he does not speak only to you about your assignment; the same spirit is quickened in the heart of everyone who will stand by you. By your intelligence you could never gather them, but the sent word connects bone to bone, structure to structure. Baby Jesus in the flesh would not have known he would need a Joseph of Arimathea or a Simon of Cyrene, yet they were already stationed. There are men who cannot die because you have said yes, for their dying would make God look like a liar. As with Anna the prophetess, who was not to taste death until she saw the consolation of Israel, there is a mandate on some lives tied to the arrival of a promise. God is able to make all grace abound toward you, drawing helpers as though by a magnet.

The Season and the Call to Responsibility

We are in a season of faith and trust in the integrity of God's word. It is God who confirms and makes us steadfast and establishes us in Christ, having anointed us and given us the gift of the Holy Spirit, as 2 Corinthians 1:21 declares. Because he said yes, our own is amen; let it be so. To rejoice over this word is to receive a call to responsibility: my walking in healing is yes and amen, but I have a role to play; my walking in victory, my excelling in ministry, my rising in influence, all yes and amen, but I receive grace to participate in righteousness.

The Greatest Gift

The greatest gift God gave man is not healing, promotion, or even anointing. The greatest gift is Jesus, the life that comes with him, the peace that comes with him, and the opportunity to become partakers of his divine nature. There are three gifts we receive upon declaring the lordship of Jesus: the forgiveness of sins, according to Ephesians 1:7; becoming, in experience, the righteousness of God in Christ; and becoming bona fide recipients of his life, called zoe, the very life of God. With this we begin our journey to victory, to dominion, and to serving the purposes of the kingdom.
