7 things the mercy of God did in the life of Joseph

1. Mercy helped Joseph say no to the wrong thing at an early age

   • While his brothers did evil, Joseph refused to follow them. Genesis Chapter 37
   • It is one thing to do right, but another thing entirely to do right on time. Many people do the right thing only after much has already been spoiled.

2. Mercy gave Joseph favor and impartation from his patriarchal father, Jacob

   • Jacob loved Joseph more than his other children, even those younger than him, and made him a coat of many colors. Genesis 37:3
   • Impartation can come through clothing and anointed objects, as with the aprons and handkerchiefs carried from the body of Paul.

   • God began showing Joseph his future from childhood, while many people grow old still trying to figure out their lives. Genesis 37:5-9

4. Mercy prevented Joseph from being killed by his jealous brothers

   • His brothers hated him for his dreams and plotted to kill him. Genesis 37:8
   • They killed a goat and dipped his coat in its blood instead, not realizing the goat was preserving Joseph's life in his place. Genesis 37:31
   • What the enemy plans against your life, God can maneuver into the very thing that preserves and favors it.

5. Mercy ushered Joseph's steps into a nation relevant to his destiny

   • The Ishmaelites could have sold Joseph anywhere, but they sold him into Egypt, exactly where his destiny lay. Genesis 39:1-2
   • He was sold to Potiphar, captain of the guard, whose prison later held the butler and the baker who linked Joseph to Pharaoh.
   • The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.

2. The decision to be different

   Joseph was different in lifestyle, habit, company, and association from his brothers. This generation's challenge is a bandwagon mentality, following whatever direction everyone else is going.

   A feelable, palpable presence of God that makes people around you take caution.

   Potiphar trusted Joseph with everything he owned, and not one item was missing under his watch. Genesis 39:4-6
