You Are Functioning Below Installed Capacity

If all you do is show up in the temple on Sundays, you are functioning below installed capacity.

Acts 5:42 The early believers continued every single day, both in the temple and from house to house, to teach and preach the message that Jesus is the Messiah. This is the pattern we are recovering.

The Veil Was Torn From Top to Bottom

On the day Christ died, the veil that separated the holy place from the holy of holies was torn. That inner place held the ark of the covenant and symbolised the physical presence of God. Scripture specifically states the veil was torn from top to bottom, not from bottom to top. It was very high; if a human being had torn it, it would have been torn from the bottom. But it was the hand of God that tore it.

The implications are enormous:

  • The separation between God and man is destroyed forever. You now have direct access to God. You do not need any intermediary anymore.
  • Only the high priest could enter the holy of holies, and Jesus Christ, as our high priest, has now gone in on our behalf.

The second thing that happened is that the presence of God left the holy of holies. In fact, it left the temple altogether. Where did He go? Inside you. Inside me. Scripture now describes us as the temple of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 You are the temple of God, and God Himself is present in you. His temple is sacred, and you are that temple. If you ever wondered where God's address is, search no more, because you are the address. This is true of everyone who has accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour.

Worship Has Been Democratised

In the holy place, sacrifices were offered every single day according to the laws of Moses, and those who did it were priests drawn from just one tribe, the tribe of Levi. But when Christ laid the foundation for the church and chose His disciples, He chose them across different tribes. Even Christ Himself did not come from the tribe of Levi. He came from Judah, to pass a message across: a shift was about to happen. Worship has been democratised. Under the new covenant, you have been made a priest.

1 Peter 2:5 You are living stones being built into a spiritual temple, holy priests who, through the mediation of Jesus Christ, offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.

Put yourself in the position of those alive in the days of Jesus. Only one tribe out of twelve was allowed to offer sacrifices, and only those who had been specially consecrated. Then something shifts, and now all of us are priests. Being a priest is no longer the special position of some special people.

Revelation 1:5-6 He has made us a kingdom of priests for God His Father.

Revelation 5:8-10 This is how heaven saw the death and resurrection of Jesus. He paid the price with His own blood; whereas before it was animals that were sacrificed, He became the sacrifice, presented that blood in heaven, and everything changed. From that point on, everyone who receives forgiveness of sins through Him, from every tribe and nation, becomes a priest who will reign on the earth.

1 Peter 2:9 You are God's chosen treasure, priests who are kings, a royal priesthood, a spiritual nation set apart as God's devoted ones, called out of darkness to broadcast His glorious wonders throughout the world.

Kings and Priests

So we are both kings and priests.

  • Priests offer sacrifices to God on behalf of the people, and lead the people in the worship of God.

  • Kings reign and exercise governmental authority, engaging the different territories and sectors of this planet and establishing the values of the kingdom of God in those spaces.

Honestly, we have not made a good job of the priest side, let alone the king side.

Never Lose Your Identity in Christ

One of the major things you must never lose is your identity in Christ. Too many of us are practising Old Testament under the new covenant, in the way we see the church, church leadership, and the structures and systems of the church. We need to adjust our theology. Not aligning with the identity that Christ procured for us by His blood makes nonsense of His sacrifice on the cross.

Pentecost: The Spirit Rested on Everyone

On the day of Pentecost, the power of the Holy Spirit came from heaven and rested on the disciples Christ had chosen across different tribes, generations, and genders. Tongues of fire sat on every single one of them: not the leaders only, not some special person, but everyone. As the Holy Spirit influenced them, they began to act beyond the limits of human ability. When onlookers saw them, they said these people were drunk.

Acts 2:16-17 Peter stood and explained that this was not drunkenness but the fulfilment of the prophecy of Joel: God pours out His Spirit on all flesh, so that sons and daughters prophesy, young men see visions, old men dream dreams, and both menservants and maidservants receive of His Spirit. What shocked people was seeing people of every background, gender, and age under the influence of the Holy Spirit. Peter said it is prophecy fulfilled. This new dispensation is for everyone; there is no special person anymore.

Stop idolising people. Stop worshipping people. Remove the old covenant structure from your mind. You are the real deal.

Peter and Cornelius: Stand Up

Consider what happened in the house of a gentile military officer. An angel appeared to Cornelius and told him to send for Peter, giving him the exact address where Peter was staying. There was a message God wanted delivered, and even the angel did not have the authority to deliver it; it had to be this man.

Acts 10:25 As Peter entered the home, Cornelius fell at his feet and worshipped him. The word is intentional. For a human being God made in His own image to fall down before another human being, Scripture calls it worship.

Acts 10:26 But Peter pulled him up and said, "Stand up. I'm a human being just like you."

When people fall down, hail you, and praise you, it is sweet to the flesh; the head swells and you begin to feel important, and it multiplies when it is not one person but several. But it takes you out of alignment, because the people falling down before you are also kings and priests. Peter, who walked with the Lord Jesus, refused it. You also have status in the house of God.

Every Member a Minister

Ephesians 4:11-12 We used to read this in the King James Version and believe that the five-fold ministry, apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher, had a threefold job: to perfect the saints, to do the work of the ministry, and to edify the body of Christ. But the New King James Version, translated from older manuscripts, removed a comma the earlier translators had introduced. Everything changed. The job of those who lead in the body of Christ is to equip the saints, the temples of God, for the work of the ministry. That work belongs to the saints themselves.

There is no language in the New Testament for a special classification between the clergy and the laity, between the priests and the ordinary member. This is why we adopted the slogan: every member a minister, because every member is a priest.

Too Much Power to Contain

On the day of Pentecost, three thousand people gave their lives to Christ, and a few days later another five thousand. All of them also became priests of God. There was too much power to contain inside the temple. Jesus said that wherever two or three gather in His name, He is present.

Matthew 18:20 Where two or three gather in His name, there He is in their midst. So the believers began to gather everywhere, especially in homes.

This takes us back to where we started. Acts 5:42 Every day, in the temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach that Jesus is the Messiah.

What Are You Doing With the Mandate?

Dear king and priest, what are you doing with the great commission mandate that Jesus gave each of us? He has given you the power and the capacity. He says you are His temple, carrying His presence everywhere you go.

Acts 20:17-20 Paul reminded the elders of the church that from the first day he came to Asia he served the Lord with humility through many tears and trials, and kept back nothing that was helpful, teaching them publicly and from house to house. That is the model laid by one of the men God used to lay the foundation of the church: publicly, and house to house.

Romans 8:28 All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. Alignment is the key to manifestation in God's house. Align with His plans and purposes. Are you engaged in public ministry, and in meeting from house to house, whether in offices, online, or in small groups?

If all you do is show up in the temple on Sundays, you are functioning below installed capacity, like a V8 engine operating as though it were a tiny vehicle. God wants to use you in amazing ways.

Prayer of Consecration

Lord, I do not own my life anymore. Use me for Your glory. I choose to come into alignment with Your plans and purposes today. I will do ministry both in the temple and from house to house. I ask that the power of the Holy Spirit will take me beyond the limits of human ability, and let Your power flow through me to solve problems for individuals, for families, for organisations, and for whole nations. Use me for Your glory. Thank You, Heavenly Father, in Jesus' name.

I receive, over everyone, a fresh flow of light and revelation of who we are in Christ. I receive a consciousness of God's presence and a consciousness of His power everywhere we go, in church and outside of church, and a consciousness that He is in us and with us. Fear is banished. Inferiority thinking is banished. I receive an impartation of faith and an impartation of boldness in the mighty name of Jesus. Wherever each of us shows up, demonic activity is paralysed; the power of witchcraft is destroyed; the power of sorcery is destroyed; every form of oppression is terminated. Let our presence be His presence and our voice be His voice, and whatever cannot resist Him will never be able to resist us.

Come Home to the Father

For the honest person who says, "My relationship with God is not okay. I am a sinner. I know Jesus died for me and paid the price for my sins, and I want God to forgive me," pray this from your heart:

Dear God, I believe that Jesus paid for my sins. I ask You to forgive me and to accept me as Your child. Thank You for hearing my prayer, in Jesus' name.

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
