Every believer carries the anointing

Acts 5:42

Every day, in the temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach that Jesus is the Messiah.

The truest things you will ever know about yourself are what God says about you; your self-image sets the ceiling for what you will ever attempt. We are who God says we are, not what tradition or other people say. In cultures built on power distance, where leadership is monarchical rather than shared, believers can wrongly treat anointing as belonging only to a powerful few.

Psalm 105:13-105:15

They wandered from nation to nation, yet God let no one oppress them; he warned kings on their behalf: do not touch my chosen ones and do not harm my prophets. This was written about the Israelites, not a warning against holding church leaders accountable.

Acts 2:16, 2:17

This is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: in the last days, I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Since Pentecost, every believer is anointed and is now the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Two anointed people are enough

Matthew 18:19, 18:20

If two of you agree concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it. Where two or three gather in my name, I am there among them.

Paul and Silas, just two of them in chains, sang praise to God until an earthquake shook the prison open.

Hebrews 12:22-12:24

When Christians gather, you come to Mount Zion, the city of the living God, to thousands of angels in joyful gathering, to the assembly of God's firstborn children, to God himself, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus, and to his sprinkled blood, which speaks better things than the blood of Abel.

Five purposes every church must excel at

Acts 2:41, 2:42, 2:44-2:47

About 3,000 were added in a day, more than the temple could hold, which is why believers began meeting house to house as well.

1. Discipleship

   Devoted to the apostles' teaching, spiritual growth for everyone

2. Fellowship

   Sharing love and care; without it, acrimony and gossip take over

3. Ministry

   Meeting specific needs, visiting hospitals and prisons, and reaching people directly

4. Worship

   Worshiping together daily, praising God, enjoying goodwill

5. Missions

   Evangelism, the Lord adding daily to the fellowship those being saved

Most churches only excel at two or three of these. A small group structure makes it possible to pursue excellence in all five.

Offering your space

2 Samuel 6:10-6:12

David, wary after the ark had struck down those who touched it, left it in the house of Obed-Edom instead of taking it straight to the city of David. The Lord blessed Obed-Edom's entire household because of the ark; only then did David bring it up with celebration.

Whoever offers a home or office for God to use is positioned the same way, for spiritual activity, blessing, and open heaven to rest on that household.
