This generation of children is different. Some conversations shared with a daughter today are far more mature than any that could have been had with a father a generation ago, and she has had strong encounters with God. On one occasion, when she was about ten and fasting, her appearance during the fast was a concern, and there was a decision made in the home to stop her fasting and simply hand over her prayer requests instead. The Lord immediately corrected this: "What gave you the right to think you can dictate a walk with me? Don't." That correction was received, and the fast continued.

The Word of the Lord

2 Kings 7:1

Then Elisha said, hear the word of the Lord: tomorrow about this time a measure of fine flour will be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

By this time tomorrow, God will overhaul the trajectory of your life. Everything changes entirely. Everything changes drastically.

The word of the Lord that is heard, received, and activated is what triggers manifestation. Coming to God requires believing that He exists, but that alone is not where a testimony is tied. James 2:19 shows that even demons believe He exists, and tremble. What connects to manifestation is that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Reward is tied to diligence.

An Individual, but an Institution

Three losses are recorded in one chapter: a missing coin, a missing son, and a missing sheep. A man with a hundred sheep left ninety-nine in the wilderness to pursue the one that strayed, then carried it home rejoicing, because that one sheep was the captain of the other ninety-nine.

There are certain people who cannot die by accident, not because of the strength of their prayers but because of the assignment carried over their lives. Someone may have walked through what others walked through and not survived it, while grace has preserved another. That preservation is not incidental. A life is seen by God not merely as an individual, but as an institution, because nations are tied to it. A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.

Nothing Changes Until You Are Charged

The prophetic word Elisha released was specific, both in timing and in location: the gates of Samaria. Wherever a person's business, trade, vocation, or calling is situated, that same specificity of a prophetic word applies. Nothing changes until a person is charged, on the platform of two components: anger and hunger. A person must be angry or hungry to see a turnaround.

Illustrations of being charged for breakthrough:

• Absalom, after two years away from his father David, could not get an audience through the usual channel of Joab. He had Joab's field set on fire, and Joab came running immediately, securing the very meeting he had been refusing. Normal approaches do not always produce change; there are times an abnormal, charged approach is required.
• When Moses dropped his rod before Pharaoh's magicians, they dropped theirs without a struggle, because they were accustomed to a certain level of power and were not moved by it.
• The prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel labored and cried out to their god because they were used to producing fire by their own means, yet nothing happened, while Elijah, at the time of the evening sacrifice, called on a God who neither slumbers nor sleeps.

Why the Emergency

An emergency, a turnaround, is initiated for specific reasons.

First, to eliminate wickedness. In the days surrounding this word, mothers in Samaria were bargaining to eat their own children during a famine, an actual historical event, not a tale. Wickedness of this magnitude called for an emergency response.

An illustration was given of a mother, alone with no help, who briefly handed her crying newborn to two visiting friends while she bathed. The friends began arguing that she had unfairly given one child seven stars but shared out only five and two between them, revealing a spiritual attempt to divide what belonged to the child's destiny. When the world lies in this kind of wickedness while believers remain quiet and passive, prayer and urgency are called for. Cities carry a traffic of spirits, restrictions, and covenants transacted over wealth and destiny that quietly resist anyone trying to break into what has been fenced off.

Second, emergencies are declared when life is directly threatened. Elisha's life was threatened when the king of Israel sent for his head, and the prophet had the elders hold the door against the messenger. What looks like a small, regular event can, in reality, be a genuine threat, and the church can be too passive in recognizing that.

Who Is Speaking Over Your Life

Who is speaking over a life matters. Covering and spiritual authority make a difference: in Acts 19:35, handkerchiefs and aprons carried from Paul, a man under covering, drove out evil spirits, while the seven sons of Sceva, without covering or ownership of that authority, were overpowered and beaten by the very spirit they tried to command.

Your challenges do not have the last say. You have the last say. You have the final say. You will declare and speak over your life.

Three Things to Handle a Threat

1. Declaration

   Constant, intentional declaration is required: I shall not die. I shall see my children's children. I will fulfill destiny. I am wonderfully and fearfully made. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. Words spoken into the atmosphere should not be casual. Hosea 14:2 instructs taking words along and returning to the Lord with them. A word not declared is not confirmed; God confirms the word with signs that follow it. A young woman once warned an employer that she might not see him again because of a plot she had perceived. He responded by declaring aloud, repeatedly, "You will see me again." He was later shot at by robbers, and the bullet destroyed only the headrest of his seat, missing him entirely.

2. Revelation

   There is no sickness without symptoms, but there is no symptom without a scripture to answer it. Every symptom functions as a mental suggestion looking for verbal agreement; it can be conceded to or rejected. Declarations should be made in line with what is written, not with what is currently happening or what a diagnosis says. A specific scripture can be held over specific matters, a business, an investment, a child, the way a covenant pillar is held over each of one's own children in prayer. There is a threat, but there is a scripture; a symptom, but a scripture; an occurrence, but a scripture.

3. Connection

   An illustration was given of traveling with a passport already full of stamps, with no space left for the required exit and entry stamps, and being told plainly not to travel. Insisting on going forward anyway, and recalling the scripture that instructs, "touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm," produced an unexplainable outcome: an immigration officer simply stamped a new visa directly over an existing stamp and allowed passage through, both departing and returning.

Emergencies Also Deal With Scarcity

Some carry knowledge, versatility, and genuine skill, yet remain financially stranded. A young woman once stood up in a service and cried out for God to let her die, because she was struggling to feed herself despite being able to bake, cook, style hair, do nails, and do makeup, any one of which, pursued fully, could have made her a millionaire. Content and capacity are not always matched by favor; a person can have so much to offer and still see nothing move in their own space, giving away for free the very counsel or skill that builds others.

A poor man once gave counsel that saved an entire city, and the credit and reward went to a rich man, while the poor man remained poor, simply because he did not know how to negotiate the worth of his own wisdom.
