There is no wasted search of God

He said I have not spoken in secret, I have not spoken in a dark place of the earth. I said not to the seed of Jacob, seek me in vain. I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

Hebrews 11:6

Without faith it is impossible to please him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. He is not just a recorder, he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Psalm 34:5

They looked unto him and were lightened and their faces were not ashamed. You don't look up to God in faith and look down in shame.

Jeremiah 29:13

And you shall seek me and find me when you shall search for me with all your heart. To seek God is to locate him, to seek him at the place of prayer is to find him.

12 dividends of the profitability of prayer

Prayer is a spiritual exercise with proven physical and spiritual dividends, as seen in the lives of Jacob, Jabez, Hannah and others. It is not designed to be a religious routine or an activity of conscience.

1. Prayer eliminates the curses of life and establishes the blessing of God

   Genesis 32:24-28

   Jacob wrestled with a man until the breaking of the day. When the man saw he prevailed not, he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh, and it was out of joint. Jacob said, "I will not let thee go except thou bless me." The man renamed him Israel, "for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed." To say "bless me" is to say "take every curse out of my life."

2. Prayer brings a change of character and identity

   Jacob is not just a name, it is a behavior type, a character, an expression. At the place of prayer, the person you used to be gives way for the person you are meant to be. Jacob was what he used to be; Israel was what he was meant to be. Many lifestyles, habits and addictions are breakable at the altar of prayer.

3. Prayer brings enlargement and increased capacity

   1 Chronicles 4:10

   Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, "Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast." Joseph experienced enlargement of capacity: from manager of Potiphar's house, to manager of the prison, to manager of a nation. David was enlarged in three stages of anointing:

   • 1 Samuel 16:13 — anointed in front of his family
   • 2 Samuel 2:4 — anointed by the elders of Judah
   • 2 Samuel 5:3 — anointed by all Israel

   At the place of prayer, capacity continuously enlarges. Some people don't need more money, they need more capacity; some are demonically limited so that whatever is given to them collapses back to a low level. That limitation on capacity is broken at the altar of prayer.

4. Prayer confers royalty and authority on a person's life

   Genesis 32:28

   "As a prince hast thou power with God and with men." Prayer makes a prince out of an ordinary person. A prayerful person walks in realms of royalty, authority and dignity that amaze people, regardless of race or color.

5. Prayer imparts the power to prevail over life's circumstances, battles and conflicts

   "As a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed." Whatever situation is trying to swallow you, your life of prayer will swallow it up.

6. Prayer terminates reproach and brings about a turnaround in life

   1 Chronicles 4:9-10

   Jabez was more honorable than his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, "Because I bare him with sorrow." Prayer changed his story. Hannah experienced the same turnaround.

   1 Samuel 1:11

   She vowed, "if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid... and give unto thine handmaid a manchild, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life." She was barren for years until a turnaround happened at the place of prayer.

7. Prayer breaks the forces of sorrow and frustration

   1 Samuel 1:15

   Hannah called herself "a woman of a sorrowful spirit."

   1 Samuel 1:19-20

   After she prayed, the Lord remembered her and she conceived and bore Samuel. The woman of a sorrowful spirit became the woman of a jubilant spirit.

8. Prayer brings the hand of God upon a person's life

   Jabez asked that God's hand might be with him, and God granted his request. The hand of the Lord equals strength, speed and power.

   1 Kings 18:46

   The hand of the Lord was on Elijah, and he outran Ahab's chariot to Jezreel.

   Habakkuk 3:1-4

   His brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand, and there was the hiding of his power. When God lays his hand on you, he lays his power.

9. Prayer keeps us from evil and keeps evil from us

   Jabez asked that God's hand would keep him from evil, that it may not grieve him.

   Matthew 6:13

   "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Many traps, snares, encounters and relationships could have been avoided if people were more prayerful.

10. Prayer dismantles limitations and embargoes on lives and destinies

    Where the enemy says "this is where you will stop," your prayer life says you will go beyond that. Neither Jabez nor Jacob were meant to amount to much, but every embargo placed on their lives was dismantled by the power of prayer.

11. Prayer reverses enemy decrees and verdicts

    Lamentations 3:37

    "Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?"

    Esther 3

    Haman decreed the elimination of the Jews and got the king's ring to seal it. But when Mordecai told Esther, she called the Jews to pray and fast for three days, saying, "If I perish, I perish." The verdict was cancelled and only Haman died. Every evil prescription the enemy has made for your life shall become their own portion instead.

12. Prayer activates the force of favor with both God and man

    Esther 5:1-3

    On the third day, Esther stood before the king unannounced (a capital offense without invitation), and she obtained favor in his sight. The king held out the golden scepter and offered her up to half the kingdom. Instead of execution, she received promotion — that is the power of prayer. Haman was later hanged on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. What the enemy plans for you shall backfire on them.

Two-fold counsel on prayer

1. Pray with deep understanding that God both hears and answers prayer.

   Ephesians 3:20

   He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.

   Isaiah 65:24

   Before they call I will answer, and while they are yet speaking I will hear.

2. Pray with faith and confidence in the reliability of God.

   Hebrews 6:17-18

   By two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation.

   Hebrews 11:6
