Prayer Is the Heaviest Molecule

We began an emphasis on the subject of prayer. We are still on the subject of prayer because when someone gives his life to Christ, one of the things that those saddled with the responsibility of discipleship must ensure that the person understands is the prayer adventure.

If you understand the prayer adventure, you might be alone but you will not be lonely. Adam was not lonely in the Garden of Eden. He was just alone. The fact that there is nobody in the space, nobody in the room, is not enough reason for you not to have interactions.

A very heavy molecule in our Christian life is prayer. In fact, in my opinion it is the heaviest molecule, because it is prayer that gives life to every other thing in your Christian life. It is one of the responsibilities that the believer in Jesus Christ is saddled with.

The old saints called it the life of prayer. If you read from the writings of Christians in the 17th and 18th centuries, they called it the life of prayer. This concept of prayer as a life is drawn from Luke 18:1 — Jesus said men ought always to pray and not to faint. Two times in the ministry of Jesus, he first gave the lesson before telling the parable. This was one of those times. The old saints saw prayer as a life.

This is the nerve of the Christian life. If you get it wrong in prayer, you get it wrong in everything — divine direction, holiness, relating with people under pressure. You will not have what it takes to manifest the Christ life if you get it wrong in prayer.

Types of Prayer

Prayer is a fundamental doctrine — not debatable. But people pray and answers are minimal because they have a wrong concept. James 4:3 — Ye ask and receive not because ye ask amiss. There are about 22 types of prayer.

  1. The Prayer of Repentance

Repentance is fundamental. You cannot be enlisted into this family without it. This is the first prayer everyone must pray. Repentance is not confessing sin — if you confess sin, you will confess and confess and lose count. Repentance is confessing Christ. Saying, Jesus, I accept you. Accepting the price that was paid and verbally declaring it. Romans 10:10 — With the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Your learning to pray in this kingdom begins with that episode of repentance.

  2. The Prayer of Communion

Nobody can make impact without a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. This prayer of communion is not shouting, not screaming, not yelling, not wailing. It is a prayer of conversation with the Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 13:14 — The grace of our Lord Jesus, the love of God, and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit likes to be spoken to. One evening lying down, the words came: Holy Spirit, I love you. He responded: it took you a whole day to say this to me. That is how much he is interested in conversation. You must have an understanding of the kind of prayer before you take the posture.

  4. The Prayer of Agreement

There are battles in your life that will never end until somebody agrees with you. You will pray alone and keep praying. You pray and fast and fast and fast — nothing will happen until you engage agreement prayer. Matthew 18:19 — If two shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done. There are some of you who just need someone to speak a word over your life. You have fasted. That is why you keep repeating prayers. Nothing is changing because of the absence of agreement.

Do you know Hannah? There was no kind of fasting Hannah engaged in that brought the breakthrough, until Eli agreed. 1 Samuel 1:17 — Go in peace, the God of Israel grant thee thy petition. That was agreement. There are things that will not break forth until somebody joins you, agrees with you, holds your hand and makes certain declarations with you.

When Stephen was stoned he died, because there were no brethren around him. When the same people stoned Paul, brethren gathered around him and life returned — because when there is a gathering, there are innumerable companies of angels. And by raising of those angelic presences, things shift. The ministry of angels is a subject that has been silent in the church for too long. Most of the strange manifestations in scripture occur when there is angelic awareness.

  5. The Prayer of Cleansing

As a believer, born again, you still need: Lord, cleanse me — to constantly stay pure. Psalm 51. 2 Corinthians 7:1 — Having these promises, let us cleanse ourselves of all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

In the year 2000, at a three-day program, there was an emptiness in ministry — nothing moved the first two days. Praying from 2am to 3pm, over eleven hours, begging God. The third day the Holy Spirit came and reminded: a week before, someone brought a video of a minister. His appearance and manner of ministering did not agree with the spirit of the one present, and the words were voiced: this one is not a man of God. God said: you touched my servant. That is why I walked away. Falling on the face, asking for cleansing — that night he came, and they ministered till 2am. Every time they tried to stop, somebody was healed, somebody could see, somebody was walking. Because of bitterness, anger, pride — as a believer, you must call: Lord, cleanse me.

  6. Warfare Prayers

You are used to this one. But you do not pray warfare prayers on your knees. You pray them on your feet. Ephesians 6:10-18 — Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God.

When you are praying warfare prayers — combat, prayers of dominion, prayer to dislodge the enemy — you need scriptures. Most times, warfare songs are also important. You dislodge the enemy with warfare prayers and warfare songs. You do not beg. You exercise authority. You are vocal, brutal. You speak from a position of advantage: in the name of Jesus, I rebuke you. In the name of Jesus, I take authority. God did not call you to bargain — he called you to take dominion.

Daniel 10 — Daniel prayed warfare prayers for 21 days and the prince of Persia contended. Gabriel came and was resisted — until Michael appeared. Because in the angelic order, it takes a prince to handle a prince. There is structure in the spirit realm. Michael was a prince. The prince of Persia was a prince. Gabriel is not a prince — Gabriel is a messenger for good news and declarations, not a war angel. God is not emotional. Until you understand how to engage spiritual laws, you may end up stranded.

Somebody can cry and cry and cry and is not healed until they engage the law of faith. When it comes to warfare prayer, you exercise authority. Not: Father Lord, why? I take authority. I exercise authority.

  7. The Prayer of Affirmation

Sometimes you just affirm: Lord, I believe your word. Lord, you said this, this, this — I believe it. Lord, you said you were wounded for my transgression, bruised for my iniquity. By your stripes, I am healed. I believe it. It is called prayer of affirmation — just affirming your faith in God.

Affirmation is sending God's word back to him, letting him know you believe it. You are rehearsing it to his hearing, to the hearing of spirits. Promotion comes not from east or west, but God is the judge — Lord, I believe my promotion has come. This kind of prayer, you can do while cooking. When you are praying affirmation prayer, you speak in understanding, not in tongues.

  8. Praying in Tongues

Praying in tongues is the spirit praying — it is not you praying. Your vocal cord is only a passageway for the spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:18 — I speak in tongues more than ye all; build yourself up. Jude 1:20 — Praying in the Holy Ghost, building up yourselves in your most holy faith. When you are praying in the spirit, you are building your spiritual muscles. You confuse the devil. Praying in tongues is speaking the language of angels.

In Acts 2, they were filled with the Holy Spirit. In Acts 4, they were filled again. Between chapters 2 and 4 there was a puncture — a power leakage through fear. When they healed the man at the gate called Beautiful, threat came. Fear came and affected their fulness. So they had to pray again to be filled again. Pray in the spirit.

  9. The Prayer of Thanksgiving

Anything you thank God for multiplies. Anything you complain about reduces. This prayer carries multiplication power.

When Jesus got to the grave of Lazarus, he said: Father, we thank you that you hear me always. When he lifted the five loaves, John 6, he gave thanks. Operate the same way he operated. Make thanksgiving a lifestyle — intentional, conscious, deliberate, purposely a life of constant gratitude to the One who was and is and is to come.

Worthy, worthy, worthy is your name. I give you all the glory. Holy, holy, holy are you, Lord.

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
