Serving God's Interest in Your Generation

Ezekiel 22:30

"I sought for a man that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none." It is possible to claim to be serving God, to be a minister, a pastor, a church worker, and yet not be serving the interest of God. Men like Moses, Elijah, Archbishop Benson Idahosa, T.L. Osborn and Morris Cerullo served God's interest in their generation.

What It Takes to Serve God's Interest

1. Maintaining the company of God

   Mark 3:13-14

   He ordained twelve that they should be with him first, and after they had been with him, he might send them. You cannot serve the interest of one you are not close to.

2. Maintaining connection with the heartbeat, passion and burden of God

   1 Samuel 17:29

   When Eliab mocked David for confronting Goliath, David answered, "Is there not a cause?" John the Beloved was the one who leaned on Jesus' bosom, monitoring his heartbeat, and it was to him Jesus entrusted his mother and the revelation of the end of the world.

3. The decision to stand with God

   Exodus 32:26

   Moses said, "Who is on the Lord's side?" and the Levites came out. Standing on the side of God on every issue may make you unpopular.

4. The decision to stand for God

   Psalm 69:9

   "The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up." The zeal of God is a driving force, a fire that cannot be quenched.

5. The decision to act on the behalf of God

   Esther said, "If I perish, I perish." Elijah said, "Before God, whom I stand, there shall be no rain except by my word." Archbishop Idahosa declared a witches' conference would not hold in Benin, and it did not.

6. The decision to speak on the behalf of God

   There is a time when silence is a crime, when good is being confronted and wickedness is loud. What is worse than the triumph of evil is the silence of good. Joseph of Arimathea went boldly to Pilate to demand the body of Jesus. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow though everyone else stayed silent.

7. The decision to give God pleasure with your life, your zeal, your proactivity

   Numbers 25:7-13, Matthew 3:17

   Phinehas ran a Midianite man and woman through with a javelin to turn away God's wrath during a plague, and God rewarded him with a covenant of peace for his generation. God said of Jesus, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

8. The decision to take risks on the behalf of God

   Paul said, "None of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself." Esther said, "If I perish, I perish." It took thirteen years in ministry before a house was built, not for lack of money but for lack of remembering.

The Dividends of Serving God's Interest

1. When God's interest is your interest, your interest becomes God's interest

   James 4:8

   "Draw near to me, and I will draw near to you." "He that honors me, I will honor."

2. It causes you to stand out in your generation

   The Levites were separated, put in a class of their own, and experienced honor and dignity beyond the ordinary.

3. He hands over to you every mantle you will need to do his work

   When Elijah felt he was the only prophet left, God told him there were a hundred others who had not bowed the knee, but their mantles were carried and given to him, so that he could do the work of a hundred people.

An altar call followed for salvation, with prayer for those returning to right standing with God.
