Hope: The Anticipation of Good Beyond Your Current Condition

There is power in the word hope. Hope means anticipating good beyond your current condition. Once a person loses hope, the energy to go forward — the impetus to keep fighting, keep pushing, keep striving, keep reaching — becomes lost. No matter what a man faces, if he has not lost hope, then there is still a future.

There are people who are literally present as a ritual of obedience, but the truth is that there is almost no expectation — because it looks to them as though God has forgotten them. They are present to celebrate what God is doing in the life of others, hoping to find hope seeing that he did it for someone else.

I am a friend of God. He calls me friend.

Personalize that. The Bible says in Behold what manner of love the Father has given unto us, that we would be called sons of God. Can a mother forget her suckling child? God says: even if the mother is so careless as to forget her suckling child, I will not forget you.

Let hope rise. Darkness trembles in your holy light.

God is dependable. It doesn't matter what comes — he is still God. He is intentional. Everything is working for your good.

Welcome to the Miracle Service

God is set to do us good. Why does he do us good? Because he is God and it is in his character to do good. The rich young ruler came to Jesus and said, "Good master, what do I do to inherit eternal life?" And Jesus replied, "Why do you call me good? No man can be good except God." So God is good, and he will demonstrate and reveal his goodness in your life.

One of the most visible expressions of his glory is his goodness. Moses said, "Show me your glory." And God said, "I will let my goodness pass."

Distance for a man of faith is no barrier. Proximity is an advantage, but for a man of faith — whether watching online, across viewing centers, across the globe — God will do good. He is as near as your faith can draw him.

The Foundation for the Miraculous

The foundation for faith is the word of God — not emotions, not sentiments. The foundation for Bible faith that attracts the miraculous and the supernatural is the word of God. When you are attempting to see miracles manifest in your life, if you neglect the word of God and ignore the ministry of the Holy Spirit, there is no possibility of receiving miracles.

The things you hear are as important as the miracles you intend to receive, because these are the keys that will open the door for the miraculous.

God Is a Supernatural God

The God of the Bible is a supernatural God. From Genesis to Revelation there is a manifesto of his supernatural dimension — his supernatural abilities. Whether it is his creative ability, in resurrection, in his power to restore hope, his power to advance people — all through Scripture we see supernatural manifestations:

• The creation of the heavens and the earth
• The mighty deliverance of the nation of Israel from Egypt
• The incarnation of Jesus through the womb of a virgin
• The resurrection — defeating hell, sin, Satan, and the grave
• The empowering of ordinary people to do extraordinary things for the kingdom
• His glorious bodily ascension from the earth
• The promised return: "This same Jesus you see will return as you have seen him go."

God Is a Miracle-Working God

Miracles are supernatural acts of intervention.

The miraculous is an expression of the supernatural. While the supernatural broadly refers to every occurrence beyond the realm of science and human logic, the miraculous specifically refers to intervention — when a supernatural process breaks into a situation.

Miracles are supernatural acts of intervention brought about by the love, the mercy, and the power of God.

Three elements are essential for understanding the miraculous:

1. The love of God — God's love compels intervention. Love that has no desire for the well-being of its object is not true love. Jeremiah 31:3 — "I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you."
2. The mercy of God — Mercy activates where justice alone would not move. God created space for mercy to come in at the point of human limitation.
3. The power of God — Psalm 62:11 — power belongs to God. Ephesians 1:19 speaks of "the exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe."

When Miracles Are Needed

God did not design us to live by miracles alone. When principles are engaged and they lead to a predictable outcome, that is consequence — not miracle. A baby who eats well and grows has not experienced a miracle; that is the natural consequence of eating well. A student who studies diligently and achieves excellent grades has not experienced a miracle — the result can be reproduced by the same process.

A miracle suggests that factors beyond your control have tampered with the natural course of things.

However, according to the limitations of men — no matter how diligent, compliant, or faithful — there will come a day when the course of things is tampered with:

• By your own carelessness or ignorance
• By factors around you that you did not engineer
• By demonic opposition
• By circumstances inherited from birth

The disciples asked of the man born blind: "Who sinned — this man or his parents?" Jesus said, "Neither, but that the glory of God should be manifest in him." There are times when, no matter how careful, compliant, diligent, or zealous a person is, they will be faced with things that defy their ability to fully obey the rules that would ordinarily produce good outcomes. At that point, whether engineered demonically, by ignorance, or by the actions of those connected to them — a miracle is needed.

The miraculous is God's attestation of his commitment to see you walk in victory. He created space for supernatural intervention so that when we default — by our own cause or by others — we can tap into his love, his mercy, and his power to remedy the constraint.

If God can raise the dead, then he can perfect the living.

If God can raise the dead, there is nothing worse than dying. That rotten flesh — he can perfect it. That decaying bone — he can strengthen it. If God can raise the dead, he can perfect the living.

The Message Attached to Every Miracle

Every miracle that comes from God carries a letter. Most people receive the act of intervention but do not read the letter attached to that intervention.

The letter says: I love you and I still care about you. I am still mighty and I am dependable.

Every miracle should draw you closer to God. If you only receive the miracle and celebrate it, it may not do anything about your relationship with God. But when you read the letter, you discover it is a lover's letter from God to the one he loves.

Never Commonize the Presence of God

Something happens when people live perpetually in the atmosphere of miracles — familiarity can creep in. If you don't train your mind to always preserve the wonder of God in your life, you can get too familiar. That level of familiarity will make you a stranger in the midst of God's power — God is moving and blessing people, and because there is no personal expectation, you receive nothing.

When you buy something new — a phone, a gadget — there is great desirability around it because it is new. But as you use it, you stand the risk of commonizing it. It falls, you don't care. It cracks, you don't fix it. That same mentality can be transferred to the things of God:

• Never cheapen the presence of God.
• Never cheapen the power of God.
• Never cheapen the gifts of the Spirit.
• Never lose the wonder you have for his presence.

God's presence rests and remains where there is reverence. Once you commonize the glory, the presence, prophecy, healing, the word, and the wonders of God — you will see them fade in your life. The presence of God is attracted when there is reverence and when there is honor.

Miracles Do Not Just Happen — They Are Provoked

All supernatural acts of intervention from God toward his people are provoked. They do not just happen. Wanting a miracle does not make a miracle happen. It takes more than desiring a miracle.

You may desire breakthrough. You may desire healing. You may desire freedom from captivity. But desire alone does not guarantee experience. There are people who desire miracles but will never receive them because they are not taught that miracles do not just happen — they are provoked.

Four Keys to Provoking the Miraculous

1. Believe That All Power Belongs to God

   You must believe that all power belongs to God — not God and Satan, not God and your employer, not God and a politician. The moment you partition power and allocate parts to other forces, you close yourself off to seeing God move.

   Psalm 62:11 — God has spoken once: power belongs to him. All kinds of power. The power to lift, to restore, to ward off curses — all belongs to God.

   Satan's seeming power is derived from a shared partnership with the authority God originally gave to man. Man, through ignorance or conscious deception, came into partnership with Satan. But it is God's power — mismanaged through human surrender, not original satanic authority.

   Anything God cannot give you is not available. All things come from him.

   God is not only Creator — he is Distributor. Nobody has exclusivity of anything: not wisdom, not power, not influence. God can look at a person with no background, no education, no platform, and lift them. He is not only God — he is Father. He gives to men. He can give:

   • A new story
   • A new kidney
   • A good spouse
   • Good children
   • Promotion
   • Wisdom that changes your life
   • Grace imparted upon you

   God blesses men through what are called the riches of his glory — he deposits something in the spirit. Among those riches: wisdom, understanding, skill, utterance, favor. These are the supernatural resources men do business with to walk in dominion.

   The knowledge that God gives men things should keep all men humble. If God decides to lift a man, that man is lifted. If God decides to honor a person, that person is honored — regardless of what others think.

2. Believe That God Desires Your Victory and Well-Being

   In addition to knowing he is all-powerful, you must believe that God is on your side — that he desires your victory and your well-being.

   Matthew 8:2–3 — A man with leprosy came and knelt before Jesus and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." Two things: willingness and ability. If you are willing, you can. Jesus reached out his hand and said, "I am willing. Be clean."

   God's answer to your rising is: I am willing.

   • To end curses and yokes: I am willing.
   • To provide for your children: I am willing.
   • To make you prosper as a young person: I am willing.
   • To take away shame from your family: I am willing.

   Do not let the enemy manipulate you into believing that God rejoices over your pain. He is Abba — Father, source, sustainer, protector, defender.

   Jeremiah 29:11 — "I know the thoughts that I think toward you — thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

   There are times you follow God and understand the reason five years later. You cannot always be scientific about your destiny — your mind is too slow. You must trust that he knows what he is doing.

3. Believe That God Is a Miracle Worker

   Knowing that God is powerful does not automatically mean you believe he is a miracle worker. You must specifically believe that God does miracles — that he intervenes in the natural order on behalf of those who trust him.

4. Believe in the Vessel That God Uses

   God's method has always been men. God's strategy has always been men. He initiates the process, but he transmutes his power through the ministry of human vessels to reach the final recipient.

   All blessings come from God, through men, to men.

   When the possibilities of God fail to reach the final recipient, the problem is almost never God. The issue is usually with the vessel — either misalignment or unpreparedness — or the recipient is not aligned and ready to receive. Most times when results don't manifest, do not blame God.

   John 1:6 — "There was a man sent from God."

   God sends men with assignments. In Acts 9, when Ananias came to Paul in Damascus, he said: "Brother Saul, Jesus, who appeared to you, has sent me — that you should receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost." Two assignments. God sends men with specific assignments.

   There were many widows in Zarephath — but to none was Elijah sent, except one. God does not just raise men; he sends them to specific people. A man of God may carry great grace, but there are people he is specifically sent to — and when that anointing connects with the one it was sent for, it activates.

   He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. It matters how you receive. Receiving a man of God as a colleague, as a tribesman, as a peer will yield only a peer's reward — not a man of God's reward. You must receive a man of God in the name of what God has invested upon his life.

   The anointing is provoked to honor. When the anointing finds an atmosphere of honor, it flows. When people trivialize the sacrifice and the walk with God behind a vessel, they receive nothing — not because God withheld, but because familiarity shut the door.

   The anointing on a person's head is not only for others — it is for anyone who receives, including the vessel himself. A man of God must learn to separate himself as a vessel from himself as a believer, and receive what God is releasing through him.

You Must Be Willing to Take a Step of Faith

There is a final key: the step of faith. Faith must be demonstrated. Taking a step of faith is proof that you believe God. When God moves, act on what he has done. Check yourself. Do what you could not do. Move what could not move. Hear what you could not hear.

Provoking the Miraculous Through Prayer

Light: A Prophetic Declaration

John 1:5 — "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

Matthew 5:14 — "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

Isaiah 60:1 — "Arise, shine, for your light has come and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you."

The Prayer Over Requests

Mark 11:24 — "Whatsoever things you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them."

The pattern: desire, believing, receiving, having. You have written your desire. Now you pray. Then you receive. Then you have.
