The High Place Is God's Place for His People

Our objective is to understand our pathway to our place of high destiny. God has no place for his people other than the top. The low place is not our place. The high place is our place. The destiny of God's people is a high destiny — spiritually, socially, materially.

We have already covered: (1) the pursuit of God, (2) the fear of God, (3) the voice of God's direction, (4) the mercy of God. Now:

Number Five: Vision for the High Place

Genesis 13:14-15: God said unto Abraham, lift up now thine eyes and look northward, southward, eastward, westward. For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed forever. Nobody arrives anywhere by accident.

• You eventually find yourself where you consistently see yourself. If you see yourself in the pit, you will find yourself there. If you see yourself at the top, you will eventually get there. If you see yourself at the back, even if you are at the front today, you will find yourself at the back shortly. Vision is the vehicle of destiny — you travel in the vehicle of vision to reach the place of destiny.
• What dominates your mind drives your life. Proverbs 4:23: guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life. The alcoholic is dominated with alcoholism and is driven to drink. The criminal is dominated with criminal mentality and driven to crime.
• Everything within your view can be within your reach. The only things difficult to reach are things difficult to see. As Joseph's dreams remained in his view (Genesis 37:5-9), it eventually entered his reach.
• Whatever is impossible for the mind cannot be possible for life. Ephesians 3:20: unto him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think. Numbers 13:33: we were like grasshoppers in our sight, so were we in their sight. You cannot think low and fly high. You cannot have the thought of a grasshopper and the flight of an eagle.

Number Six: The Right Company

Proverbs 13:20: he that walketh with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed. To be wise is to rise.

• The right company is crucial for high destiny. The company of Amnon — his companion Jonadab — didn't only drag him down; it killed him. The company of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego went up together.
• Association is a determination of destination. When people run a marathon, most keep running because of who they are running with. When you move with crawlers, you can never fly.
• When you walk with giants, you don't take dwarf steps. Peter and John were always together; their exploits were all together. Acts 3:1: Peter and John went into the temple together. Their boldness before the Sanhedrin was marked by the fact that they had been with Jesus.
• There are people you tell your vision and they kill it on the spot. And there are those who will encourage you to jump out of the boat and walk on water. Find out which company you belong to. We can love everybody, but we must manage associations carefully.

What company did to Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: they prayed together, the secret was revealed to Daniel, the king promoted Daniel and at Daniel's request also elevated his three companions. (Daniel 2:16-19, 47-49) When God takes you forward, don't forget those who labored with you. And go up with those you have godly, quality relationship with.

Number Seven: The Acceptance of Responsibility

• Accepting responsibility means doing what needs to be done without being asked.
• Accepting responsibility means acting instead of reacting to situations.
• Accepting responsibility means refusing any excuse why the given task must not be done.
• Accepting responsibility means holding yourself responsible and refusing to look for who to blame.

David, the last born in Jesse's house, accepted the responsibility of looking after the sheep while the older brothers hung around at home. The same David arrived at the battlefield and found Goliath. He didn't need permission from anybody. Nobody paid Joseph's salary to make prisoners happy, but he took it upon himself to respond to the butler and baker's sadness — and that action later took him from prison to palace.

We live in a world where everybody is waiting for who will do the right thing. A generation of irresponsibility has multiplied wickedness and iniquity.

Four truths about the acceptance of responsibility:

1. The acceptance of responsibility is the establishment of authority. David was responsible — he was the only one working while his brothers were lazing at home — and God had him anointed.
2. Those who step out from the crowd stay above the crowd. Step out from the crowd of onlookers, the crowd of people watching for who will do it first. You step ahead and above the crowd.
3. Those who take the initiative end at the top. People will begin to envy and become jealous as you always take the initiative — that's fine.
4. To behave like a leader is to become a leader. Behavior determines becoming. If you don't wait to be put in charge to take charge, you will eventually end in charge. David was not king, but he confronted Goliath and ended up becoming king. Joseph was not the head of the prison, but he took charge and did what needed to be done.

Do what needs to be done irrespective of your title, and you will end up with a leadership mantle.
