The Blessing of Isaac

  1. 2. The Blessing of Divine Guidance and Direction

    Genesis 26:1-2

Isaac was guided and directed by God in the middle of famine, without praying, fasting, or asking a question. The Lord simply appeared to him and instructed him not to go down to Egypt, but to dwell in the land He would show him. A life not lived by trial and error carries this blessing: God knowing the direction you need and showing you the steps to take.

  2. 3. The Blessing of Increasing Greatness

    Genesis 26:13

Isaac's greatness kept increasing rather than plateauing. Many people were once great but their greatness stopped at a certain level; Isaac's did not.

  3. 4. The Blessing of Unstoppable Growth and Progress

    Genesis 26:13

Isaac's growth and progress could not be halted. Many people's growth is stopped by witchcraft, opposition, hatred, or bitterness, but Isaac's blessing gave him progress that nothing could arrest.

  5. 5. The Blessing of Multiplied Possession and Abundance

    Genesis 26:14

Isaac's possessions multiplied across flocks and herds — multidimensional possession, increase on every side, excess without stress.

  6. 6. The Blessing of Massive People Influence

    Genesis 26:14

Isaac had a large household of servants, a workforce under his influence. This blessing is not just to be excited but to be a source of joy to many; not just to get a job but to be a job provider. The capacity for people to rally around you is not a product of personal talent alone — it is a blessing, a help from God.

  7. 7. The Blessing of Enviable Existence

    Genesis 26:14

The Philistines envied Isaac. This is the blessing of a life that becomes an object of envy whether or not you seek it, whether or not you have offended anyone. Whoever does not want to be envied, hated, or resented should leave the blessing alone, but envy cannot kill — the same way a bad eye does not kill a chicken.

A man of means once sent private doctors to attend to his sick uncle in the village, and instead of gratitude was accused of trying to kill the old man. At Christmas, when he sent gift packages to his community, the people rejected them, accusing him of "exchanging their destiny" through his gifts — until he stopped giving altogether, and by the following December they began to desire what they had once rejected. This is how blessing provokes reaction from those operating out of failure, instead of them asking what steps produced the favor.

  8. 8. The Blessing of Might and Stature Beyond Institutions and Nations

    Genesis 26:16

The Philistines acknowledged that Isaac had grown mightier than they were — the blessing of an individual becoming bigger than an institution, a person becoming bigger than a nation.

  10. 9. The Blessing of Recovering Ancient Wells and Mantles

    Genesis 26:18-22

Isaac redug the wells of his father Abraham. This is the blessing of recovering ancient wells, ancient mantles, ancient graces, ancient supplies, and ancient provisions, unto enlargement.

  11. 10. The Blessing of Divine Health, Vitality, and Longevity

    Genesis 35:28-29

Isaac lived one hundred and eighty years without a single day of sickness, in full strength to the end — the blessing of divine health, vitality, and longevity.

In summary, the blessings of Isaac are: restfulness and peace, divine guidance and direction, increasing greatness, unstoppable growth and progress, multiplied possession and abundance, massive people influence, enviable existence, might and stature beyond institutions and nations, recovering ancient wells and mantles, and divine health, vitality, and longevity.

The Secrets of Isaac's Blessing

  1. 1. The Capacity to Hear the Word or Voice of God

    Genesis 26:2Revelation 1:3

The Lord appeared to Isaac and spoke to him directly. Anyone in touch with the voice and the word of God is in touch with the blessing. Whatever happens, do not leave me without Your voice; do not leave me without Your word.

  2. 2. The Decision to Obey Divine Instruction

    Genesis 26:1-4Deuteronomy 28:1-2

God told Isaac not to go down to Egypt, and he obeyed. The blessing of God is tied to obedience — it is not enough to hear what God is saying. Ask: Is there something God has told me to do that I am not doing? Is there a commandment I am disobeying?

  3. 3. The Decision Not to Act Like Everyone Else

    Genesis 26:1-4

When God told Isaac to remain rather than go down to Egypt, it appeared to be the trend of the time. Isaac did not follow the crowd. Those who follow the crowd get lost in the crowd; following the generality often costs both originality and destiny.

  4. 4. The Decision to Think Differently

    Genesis 26:12

Isaac sowed in the same season others thought only of what to eat. Others were thinking scarcity; Isaac was thinking plenty. Others were thinking famine; he was thinking harvest. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Until you think differently, you cannot end differently — a revolutionary mentality is what sparks a revolution in a generation.

  5. 5. The Decision to Be a Sower, Not a Consumer

Isaac sowed even in adversity, even in crisis, without anyone asking him to. As long as you determine to be a giver, you are not permitted to be a beggar; as long as you decide to be a sower, you are positioned to be a reaper.

  6. 6. Qualitative Family Life

    Genesis 25:21Genesis 26:8

Of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, Isaac was the only one who had just one wife. While Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah all struggled with barrenness, Isaac was the only one who personally interceded for his wife's barrenness rather than leaving the burden on her. Isaac also lived free of the kind of prolonged conflict that marked Abraham's and Jacob's lives, and outlived both of them — one hundred and eighty years, against Abraham's one hundred and seventy-five and Jacob's one hundred and forty-six.

  7. 7. A Persistent, Resilient Spirit

    Genesis 26:17-22

Isaac redug the wells his father had dug, which the Philistines had stopped up. When the herdsmen of Gerar contended with him over one well, he moved and dug another; when they contended again, he moved and dug yet another, until he reached a place of no more conflict and called it Rehoboth, saying the Lord had made room for him. Where there is a resilient, persistent spirit, no opposition can stop the blessing.

Lift your hands and your voice and say, Father, I receive the grace — the secret of the blessing of Isaac — in the name of Jesus. The capacity to hear Your word and Your voice, I receive it, in the name of Jesus.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
