Luke 7:13-16

When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said, "Weep not." And he that was dead sat up and began to speak, and he delivered him to his mother. And there came a fear on all, and they glorified God, saying that a great prophet is risen up among us, and that God has visited his people.

Victory is the language of the believer

The totality of our salvation is encapsulated in the word victory, because there is no salvation without the cross, and the cross is the representation of the victory of the saints. Everyone who is born again is a candidate for victory. But so long as you are on earth, battles are ceaseless. Our battles are not meant to finish us, they are meant to furnish us. When trials come, God is not punishing you, he is polishing you.

1 John 5:4

Victory at last is when God shows up and swallows a prolonged crisis. It is the overturning of a perceived fundamental battle of human life. Victory at last is God's effect over the powerlessness of Satan.

The city of Nain

Nain means prosperity. It was like an oil city, the Saudi of those days, a land where people thrived. But someone entered the city of Nain and was in tears, in pain, in captivity. When Jesus saw her weeping, he was moved with compassion.

I am so excited that in my pain, God sees me. I don't serve a God who sees me weep and turns his back on me.

Three controversies in the Book of Ruth

1. The names spoken over the home

   Elimelech had a wife, Naomi, and two sons, Mahlon and Chilion. Elimelech means "God is king," Naomi means "the pleasant one." But Mahlon means sickness and Chilion means dying. Those were the only names heard daily in that house. As they kept calling sickness and calling death, the man became sick and died, and the two children also died. What you keep calling in your house is what you are calling to yourself.

2. No bread in the house of bread

   They went to Moab because there was no bread in Bethlehem. Bethlehem means house of bread, but the man was of Bethlehem Judah, and Judah means "praise the Lord." When there is no bread in the house of bread, praise God and bread will come. We don't praise him because things are good, we praise him so that things can be good. It doesn't matter if there is scarcity in Bethlehem, you are also from Judah, you are a child of praise.

3. A heart of gold needs a hand of gold

   Naomi had an in-law, Boaz, who was blessed. No matter your heart of gold, you need a hand with gold, or it will only be a wish. There are many of us with a heart to help people but no hand with gold to do it. The God who gave you a heart of gold will connect you to a hand with gold.

What compassion does

• Compassion overturns captivity — Deuteronomy 30:3. It is compassion that turns captivity to festivity, that takes you from obscurity and makes you a celebrity.
• Compassion restores human value and dignity — 2 Kings 13:23. Dignity is restored, shame removed, reproach taken away.
• Compassion triggers remembrance — Isaiah 49:15. Can a woman forget her sucking child? Even if a mother forgets other things, she does not forget her child. Whatever you are going through, God is feeling what you are feeling.
• Compassion sponsors provision — Matthew 15:32, 37. Wherever provision is, when God shows compassion, it shows up.
• Compassion gives direction — Mark 6:34. Jesus saw the multitude as sheep without a shepherd, and taught them.

He touched the root

When Jesus had compassion on the widow, he said nothing to her, he went straight and touched the coffin. There can't be total victory until God touches the root of your battle.

Amos 2:9 — I destroyed the fruit from above and his root.

Mark 11:20-22 — the fig tree Jesus cursed withered from the root, and he told Peter, "Have faith."

That infirmity has a root. That battle has a root. Satanic operation is empowered when the root is not terminated. To see victory at last, God must touch the battle from the root.

Restoration

The Bible says he that was dead sat up. It doesn't take God time, it takes him faith. The end of the day is not the end of the story. That a car stopped doesn't mean the journey has ended, you might only be stopping to change a tire. A comma is not a setback, it is a step back for a comeback. Your condition is not your conclusion.

He didn't just raise him, he sat up

He didn't just bring the child back to life, the child sat up. What is the essence of resurrection if you can't sit up? Your business will sit up. Your ministry will sit up. Your calling, your career, your profession will sit up.

There is nothing Jesus touches that he takes. When he touches something, he gives it back to you. The widow's son was touched and delivered back to his mother. Whatever struggle is in your business, in your health, in your family, command it: sit up.

Testimony

At a prayer meeting with pastors, a young man came for ministry and was prayed for. He turned out to have cancer of the blood, though only his wife knew it at the time. Days later he sent word that his tests came back clean, no cancer.
