Salt That Has Lost Its Flavor Is Worthless
Matthew 5:13 — "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men." Being "trodden under foot" is frustration language — it's one thing to be thrown out, but salt that's lost its flavor gets thrown out and then trampled, as if even the ground itself is frustrated with it. A tasteless disciple isn't hot or cold — it's neutral, and neutral doesn't change the soup it's sitting in.
Being salt isn't about being famous or wealthy — the world already has plenty of both without Christ. If something can be fully had without Jesus, having it isn't what being salt actually means. Salt has to remain distinct from the soup it's placed into, or it isn't doing anything at all.
Artificial Intelligence and the Coming Shift in Work
Researchers increasingly agree that repetitive, predictable work — the kind that's easy to automate — will shift heavily toward machines in the coming years. But the same research points to what machines still can't replicate: genuine creativity, discernment, and relational wisdom. You cannot be full of the Spirit and be lazy at the same time — those two states cannot coexist. A prophecy shared decades ago spoke of God giving people ideas and inventions they then did nothing with, second-guessing themselves into inaction. Often it's the unbeliever who hears a business idea and moves on it immediately, while the believer hesitates and lets the moment pass.
An Identity Crisis Is Coming — the Church Has to Have Answers
Current research places the global burden of mental health disorders at roughly one in eight people worldwide, with depression affecting around 280 million and anxiety disorders around 301 million, including one in seven young people between the ages of ten and nineteen. Beneath much of this is a crisis of identity — people who don't know who they are once the roles, jobs, or achievements that used to define them are gone or automated away. As the world changes rapidly, the church has to be equipped to answer the identity question scripture already answers, rather than simply reacting to the crisis once it's already widespread.
Love the Person, Not the Idea of the Person
There's a real difference between someone loving you and someone loving an idea of you. The clearest test of which one you're dealing with comes at your lowest point — when there's genuinely nothing impressive left to love about you, and someone still stays. If love survives you at your worst, it was never really about the version of you they found attractive in the first place. Prepare now to be that kind of steady presence for the people in your life, before a crisis ever tests it — able to remain kind toward a spouse who loses a job, rather than only being present for the version of them that currently succeeds.
Prudence Means Planning Ahead of the Storm
Proverbs 22:3 — "A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished." Being prudent isn't the same as being fearful — it's seeing what's coming and preparing wisely rather than assuming things will simply work out. The rich fool in Luke 12 built bigger barns and told himself he was secure, only to be told, "This night thy soul shall be required of thee." Wealth and comfort can create a false sense of safety that has nothing to do with actual readiness — for eternity, or for the practical changes already visibly reshaping how the world works.
