Preservation by the Blessing

Job 1:10

Satan said of Job, "Hast thou not made a hedge about him and about his house and about all that he has on every side?" Throughout scripture the covenant fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, were preserved, protected and defended by the blessing of God. They were not wastable materials, not victims of cheap wastage by the devil.

Understanding the Preservation Power of the Blessing

1. The blessing is accompanied by a hedge of divine preservation

   Job 1:10

   When the blessing comes, it does not come alone, the same way a snail's shell comes with the snail. The blessed man or woman is not vulnerable, there is an impenetrable wall around them.

2. The blessing activates a shield of favor and fortune

   Psalm 5:12

   You are shielded with favor, shielded with fortune. You cannot be surrounded with misfortune by the blessing of the Lord.

3. The blessing establishes a perpetual injunction against destroyers

   Isaiah 65:8

   An interim injunction is temporary, a perpetual injunction is indefinite. There is a decree over the life of the blessed that no devil can touch or trespass. Lack of awareness can kill far more than any deadly disease. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."

4. The blessing has a covenant response system

   Genesis 12:2-3

   It is intrinsic and automatic, wired into the life of the blessed like a heartbeat. What you get is determined by what you release. Bless someone and it bounces back, curse someone and it bounces back a thousandfold.

5. The blessing fertilizes life and destiny unto flourishing, increase and multiplication

   Genesis 26:12-13, Exodus 1:12

   Isaac sowed in a land of famine and reaped a hundredfold. The more the Egyptians afflicted Israel, the more they multiplied. The things that come to hurt you will eventually come to help you. There is something on the inside of the blessed that resists being finished.

6. The blessing establishes angelic presence

   Genesis 32:1-2, Genesis 48:16, Psalm 34:7

   Blessing is a product of covenant, and covenant activates angels. To be blessed is to be surrounded with the company of angels.

7. The blessing causes God to move directly into action for the defense of the blessed

   Genesis 20:1-3, Genesis 31:24

   When Abimelech took Sarah, God appeared to him in a dream and told him he was a dead man. God did the same to Laban concerning Jacob. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Qualifications for the Blessing of Preservation

1. A quality covenant walk with God

   Genesis 12:1-5

   Covenant is a relationship of highest value and import, closer than anything else. When you become the Abraham of God, God becomes the God of Abraham.

2. Receiving and obeying the word

   Revelation 1:3, Deuteronomy 28:1-2

   Seeing revelation alone is not enough, it must translate into application. It is not our preaching but our practices, not our revelation but our applications, that change our life.

3. Being a blessing to your generation

   Genesis 12:2-3

   God blesses a person to the capacity of their willingness and readiness to be a blessing, in tithes, offerings, giving, and to the poor and less privileged.

4. Connection to priestly and prophetic blessings

   Numbers 6:23-26, Hosea 12:13

   By a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet Israel was preserved. Instruction is key to preservation.

5. Connection to the blessing of kingdom service

   Exodus 23:25-26, Luke 10:1-2, 19

   One critical service that must not be neglected is soul winning. The seventy returned with joy because nothing could harm them after they went on assignment.

6. Connection to the blessing of upright living

   Psalm 1:1-3, Isaiah 33:15-16

   The Lord blesses the righteous with favor, not the wicked. The one who lives uprightly shall dwell in a realm beyond the reach of harm, like a rock top far above the reach of a roadblock.
