The Turnaround Power of the Word

We are redeemed for a turnaround adventure in life. God is concerned when anyone remains at the same spot over a long period of time. Proverbs 4:18 declares that the path of the just shines more and more to the perfect day. 2 Corinthians 3:18 teaches that as believers behold him in his word — the mirror of life — they are changed from glory to glory by the spirit of the Lord.

The word of God is God's turnaround tool in the hand of the believer. But it is not just an encounter with the light of the world — it is walking in that light that triggers a turnaround. John 12:35 urges walking while there is light, so that darkness does not come upon you. Ephesians 5:8 puts it plainly: those who were once darkness are now light in the Lord, and must walk as children of light.

The illustration of natural growth is instructive: a baby elephant does not pray to be big — the genes of bigness are already in it. It only needs to keep doing what elephants do, consuming the required volume daily. A baby lion does not pray to be strong as long as it keeps eating what lions eat. Eagles do not pray to soar — the genes are in them; they only need to exercise so that the eagle in them can emerge. In the same way, the believer does not need to strain and strive — dedication to the Word activates what is already resident within.

Pathways to Revelation

  1. Put the Word to Work

The more of God's Word a believer puts to work, the more he reveals. This is a mystery. He said to the one who kept his talent hidden and gave to the one who has ten: unto him that has shall more be given, and from him that has not shall be taken away. So putting the Word to work gives access to more revelation. Refuse to quit.

He that sows with patience will bring forth fruit. Luke 8:15 describes those on good ground as those who, having heard the word with an honest and good heart, keep it and bring forth fruit with patience — they keep engaging. Hebrews 10:38 warns that if any man turns back, God's soul shall have no pleasure in him. Hit-and-run Christianity does not fly. It is holding fast to the Word that speaks tomorrow — to keep doing what the Word says even when nothing appears to be happening — that is a seed growing and taking its turn to bring forth fruit.

  2. Engage Your Spirit in the Search

The spirit of man is the only part with capacity to receive light from heaven. Man's intellect has no adequate capacity to embrace the truth. The truth is bigger than the mind of man. Isaiah 55:8-9 declares God's ways and thoughts higher than man's. A natural man cannot receive the things of the spirit of God — they are foolish to him; neither can he know them. So engage your spirit in the search. Isaiah 26:9 says: with my soul have I desired in the night, and with my spirit within me will I seek thee — and when the judgments of the Lord are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. One always finds when the search is engaged with the whole spirit.

This is why the deep things of God require spirit-engagement.

  3. Commit to the Study of the Word

He that asks receives. He that seeks finds. To him that knocks the door shall be opened. 2 Timothy 2:15 charges the believer to study to show oneself approved — a workman that will not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Study begins by reading or listening. Give attention to reading, to exhortation, and to doctrine. Meditate upon these things. Give yourself fully to them, that your progress may appear to all. Daniel understood by books study — gifted as he was, studying enlarged his capacity.

  4. Believe in the Integrity of Your Findings

If God says so, it is so. Believe in the integrity of your findings. Don't be entertained by revelations — be instructed by them. The charismatics are often entertained by revelations without being instructed. Be instructed. God's prophetic plan is not a promise — it does not answer to prayers alone. It is a covenant, and until your part is played, God is not committed to it.

Prove that you believe it by putting it to work as a lifestyle. To preach does not mean you believe — and the applause of people when you speak doesn't mean the Word is at work in your life. It works by doing.

Benefits of Revelation

  1. Financial Fortune

Deuteronomy 8:18 says it is God who gives power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant. So a revelation of his covenant is fundamental to accessing the realm of financial fortune. Do not break your head trying to get things to happen — just have a revelation of his covenant that empowers wealth and choose to walk in it.

Job 22:21 instructs: acquaint yourself with God and be at peace; thereby good shall come to you. Receive the law from his mouth and lay up his words in your heart. Return to the Almighty, you shall be built up. Then shall you lay up gold as dust. The Almighty shall be your defense and you shall have plenty of silver.

The revelation foundation of financial fortune is not in where you work, how much you earn, or what business you do. His blessing makes rich and adds no sorrow. A coming deluge of financial fortune upon the church of God is on the horizon — but it is engaging with the covenant of financial fortune that will make it happen.

  2. Fulfillment of Glorious Destiny

There are things that must be done for God's agenda for a life to come to pass. Romans 8:29-30 teaches that those he predestined he called, those he called he justified, those he justified he glorified. Believers are redeemed to be glorified. But a glorious destiny cannot be fulfilled without engaging with the light of God from his word.

  3. Supernatural Victory

Revelation procures supernatural victory over the battles of life. When the light shines in darkness, darkness must clear the way. It is written — and then Satan left him. The dominion of light over darkness is instant and unquestionable: light steps in, darkness steps out — no argument, no debate. Putting on the armor of light causes believers to triumph always and in every place. Romans 13 — let us put on the armor of light, for the night is far spent, the day is at hand. One cannot wear the armor of light and be assaulted by darkness.

Obedience Is What God Blesses

Luke 6:46 asks: why call him Lord without doing what he says? God does not enforce obedience — it is a choice individuals make. Matthew 21:28-31 tells of two sons: one refused but repented and went; the other said "I go, sir" but went not. It is the one who went — not the one who agreed — that did the will of the father. It is obedience that counts with God. "I go, sir" makes no difference. Did you go?

At the wedding at Cana, the servants did not have to pray or shout — they just filled the water pots with water, and obedience turned it to wine. That is how powerful obedience is. Cast your net on the right side of the boat — the difference was obedience. They did, and they enclosed a multitude of fishes. John 21:5-6.

Abraham stepped into generational blessings through his raw obedience of faith. Genesis 22:16: because thou hast done this thing and hast not withheld thy son, thy only son — in blessing I will bless thee. Not because he heard it, declared it, or preached it — because he did it. He only blesses obedience, not insight alone. Insight without obedience is equal to blindness.

Don't Be Entertained by Revelation — Be Instructed

Ezekiel 33:30-32 describes people who come to hear the word, sit before the prophet as God's people, hear the words — but do not do them. With their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after covetousness. The prophet becomes to them as a lovely song — they hear but do not do. When it all comes to pass, then they know the prophet was among them.

Don't be entertained by revelation. Be instructed by them. Walking by revelation will always decorate destiny.

New Birth: The Gateway to Revelation

New birth is a fundamental requirement for access to revelation. Except a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Revelation is being able to see what God is saying — and until one is born again, he cannot see. Turn your life over to Christ and gain automatic access to revelation.

Lord Jesus, save my soul. Forgive me all my sins. Wash me with your blood. I believe you died for me. On the third day you rose again to set me free from the power of sin. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and live your life in me. Thank you for saving my soul. By your grace, I shall serve you all the days of my life, and by your grace I shall make heaven at the end of my journey. Amen.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
