Further Reasons Revival Fire Is Kindled

1. To Restore the Voice and Direction of God

   The last time Moses heard clearly from God was likely the forty years before the burning bush, he told God he was not eloquent, neither before nor since God had spoken to him. One of the greatest tragedies in life is moving without direction: taking steps out of assumption, existing by trial and error, hearing nothing from God. Motion without direction makes destruction inevitable. The absence of direction produces an abundance of stagnation. Results are the product of insight, not activity.

   John 6:6 notes that Jesus already knew what He would do before He asked the crowd to sit down to be fed, He moved from knowledge, not guesswork.

   2 Samuel 5:19, when the Philistines came to fight David after his anointing became known, David inquired of the Lord, "Shall I go up to the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?" The Lord said, "Go up, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hand." David obeyed and won. When the Philistines returned a second time, God gave different instructions, not to go up directly but to circle around behind them, and to advance only when the sound of marching was heard in the tops of the trees (2 Samuel 5:23-24). Even facing the same enemy, the strategy had to change; many defeats come from being married to yesterday's method. The voice of the Lord is connected to the Lord of the voice, wherever His voice is found, His person is found.

2. To Restore a Man Who Had Settled for an Alternative

   Moses' original purpose was to bring Israel out of Egypt; when that failed, he settled for something less than God's perfect will. Romans 12:1-2 speaks of God's good, acceptable, and perfect will, something can be good, even acceptable, without being perfect. God does not want anyone to mismanage their life by trading the perfect for a lesser alternative, the way Abraham once did with Ishmael before Isaac finally came, even though it took twenty years. The alternative always fights the perfect; a mistake tries to undermine a miracle.

   Illustration: As a church outgrew its building, land was found on the outskirts and preparations were underway to move there. But God pointed back to a location shown in a vision months earlier, a piece of land along the airport road. A property scout was sent, and within a week located the exact property, larger than anything previously found on the outskirts. It became the ministry's present location, proof that settling for a good alternative can mean missing what God had already shown.

3. To Rescue a Man on Whose Life the Destiny of a Nation Depends

   God prevails with a man in order to prevail with a generation. He delivers a man to deliver a nation. Remove Joseph from Egypt's story, and Egypt collapses under seven years of famine with no plan to survive it. Remove Esther, and the outcome for her people changes entirely. Remove David, and Goliath stands unanswered before Israel. Remove Elijah, and Jezebel has no opposition. In the same way, someone's destiny, a family's, a generation's, a congregation's, may be tied to a single life.

   1 Samuel 21:17, where David's men urged him not to go to battle again, records them telling him he must not go out with them any more to battle, so that the lamp of Israel would not be quenched. They told him he was worth ten thousand of them; his life carried a whole people. No devil shall quench that light.

The Secrets of Revival

1. Dissatisfaction With the Usual

   Neither David nor Moses could see more until they wanted more than the ordinary. Those comfortable with the usual never experience the unusual.

2. Passion for His Presence

   Anyone comfortable with God's absence will never experience His presence.

3. The Cry for Divine Intervention

   A cry of the spirit to experience the move of the Spirit.

4. Covenant Relationship With God

   Exodus 2:23-24, God moved for Israel because He remembered His covenant with Abraham. Covenant is a relationship of mutual commitment and dependence. Believers want to depend on God, but often resist the idea of God depending on them, the way He depended on Job before Satan, or the way He found David, a man after His own heart, when many others were being looked over.

The service closed with a season of prayer for healing, marked by testimonies of restored hearing, mobility, and sight, as those gathered gave God praise for what had taken place.
