I want to speak on revival fire.

Exodus 3:1-4, Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and led the flock to the backside of the desert, coming to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. The angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and the bush burned with fire but was not consumed. Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned." When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses." And he said, "Here am I."

The Story Behind the Fire

Moses was raised in the house of Pharaoh, after his mother placed him in the bulrushes in the river. He grew up almost being trained to be a prince, yet a passion burned in his heart to rescue his people from bondage in Egypt. He attempted to deliver them, but in the process killed a man. Pharaoh released a decree to arrest and execute him, and Moses fled into the wilderness for forty years. It was after those forty years that he encountered this fire, this burning bush, that would translate into something far bigger than himself.

What Revival Fire Was Kindled to Do

1. To Restore the Soul of a Man Straying From God

   Moses had lost relationship with the God of his youth, the God of his fathers. After his attempt in Egypt failed, he turned his back on God and was going to face other things in his life. Many people carry a similar history, a relationship with God that once burned but disappeared in the business and secular pursuits of life. God can make revival happen for the sake of one soul. Jesus passed through Samaria and sat at the well because of one soul, the woman of Samaria.

2. To Restore Lost Passion

   Revival restores passion for worship, prayer, soul winning, and fasting. Many believers and ministers reach a point where they settle down for routine, ordinary things, and the passion quietly fades. That fire, that passion, is what drives ministers to travel across nations even under great physical strain, because passion to touch one more person, to rescue one more soul, keeps them going.

3. To Restore a Man Who Appears Disappointed With God

   Moses said to God, "Oh my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since you have spoken to your servant" (Exodus 4:10), revealing that the burning bush was not the first time God had spoken to him. Moses had heard God tell him he would be the one to deliver Israel from bondage, but he appeared to rush ahead without waiting to hear the full details of how God intended to use him, moving in the energy of the flesh, attempting to deliver Israel by killing Egyptians one by one. When that failed, he became disappointed with God, believing God had promised to use him and then abandoned him.

   Samuel experienced something similar at the house of Jesse. Told to anoint the son God would name, Samuel assumed on seeing Eliab that this must be the one, but God said no. The same happened with the next son, and the next, through seven of Jesse's sons, before Samuel finally asked if there was another. That was David. The delay and frustration came from acting on assumption rather than waiting to hear the full instruction. The same pattern produced Moses' frustration and, eventually, his sense that God had failed him.

   Restoration is available for anyone whose relationship with God has broken down through disappointment of this kind.

4. To Rescue a Man From the Consequences of Presumption

   Moses acted presumptuously when he moved to rescue Israel without waiting for the details of how to do it. The consequence was that he killed a man, and then had to run for his life as a fugitive, hunted, unable to return to Egypt. Revival fire came to rescue him from those consequences and, later, sent him back to the very same Pharaoh.

   Illustration: A young woman once came into a gynecology clinic with severe complications, a fungal infection, an endometrial condition that had caused the walls of her uterus to heal together after twelve to thirteen abortions, an ectopic pregnancy that had cost her a fallopian tube, and kidney disease. Everything about her medical history worked against her ever having a child. She was led to Christ and encouraged into fellowship. Years later, she was found serving faithfully among Christian students at university. Later still, she reappeared as a newcomer at church, now married, having completed law school, and with a son of her own, the very thing her medical history said was impossible. That reversal illustrates how revival fire reverses the negative consequences of past actions when a person comes to God in honesty.

5. To Restore the Vision of Someone Who Experienced Vision Failure

   God returned to the same call He had given Moses forty years earlier, the call to deliver His people, even though the first attempt in his own strength had failed. People may fail, but God's purpose does not fail. If God does not achieve a purpose through one person, He can raise another, but here, God chose to keep Moses as the person for the purpose. Moses would face the same Pharaoh and the same opposition, but not with the same power. The difference this time was authority: the same face carrying a different fire.

Altar Call

The altar ministry closed with several testimonies of healing, including the restoration of hearing in ears that had been closed for years and the healing of a knee that had caused years of pain, as those gathered gave praise for what had taken place.
