The Necessity of Divine Visitation

Every human being, every child of God has a schedule of visitation with God. Every territory has a schedule of visitation with God, which is what we call revival. Nations have scheduled visitations with God.

Psalm 8:4

Psalm 65:9 Thou visitest the earth. That is present continuous. There is a schedule of visitation for every nation, and there is a schedule of visitation for someone's life. You shall not miss your visitation.

One of the worst things that can happen to anybody is for their visitation time to arrive and they are not aware, not around, not there. When the day of Pentecost was fully come, the disciples were in the upper room. Some who missed that visitation were fasting and waiting in the wrong place, the supper room instead of the upper room.

What Divine Visitation Produces

  • Elevation — the visitation of God is the elevation of man.
  • Transformation — when God visits, people are transformed.
  • Liberation — when God visits, lands and territories are liberated.
  • Acceleration — when God visits, there is acceleration in a man's life.
  • Direction — one visitation from God can settle a life that had no direction.

Exodus 3:8 The pattern is elevation out, liberation out, and destination in.

Seven Signs That Reveal When Revival Is Needed

  1. When the Knowledge of God Appears to Be Disappearing

    Judges 2:10, Numbers 14:21, Habakkuk 2:14

When a generation arises that does not know the Lord, God visits to introduce Himself afresh. When it appears a land has forgotten the God of its own fathers, revival is the reintroduction of the Owner of that land.

  2. When the Spirit of Rebellion Against God Seems to Be Reigning

    1 John 2:15, 2 Timothy 3:1-3

There is a spirit with a very high level of anti-God sentiment at work in the earth, a hatred for God that goes beyond mere indifference. When perilous times mark a generation and people become lovers of themselves rather than lovers of God, revival is needed to bring that spirit down.

  3. When There Is a Rising Climate of Iniquity and Lawlessness

    Matthew 24:12

There is no vacuum in nature. If the seed does not grow, the weed will grow. A nation cannot remain neutral about God; something else will fill the space left behind. As iniquity abounds, the love of many grows cold, and that is a signal that revival cannot be delayed.

  4. When There Is an Established Climate of Spiritual Dryness

    Zechariah 10:1, Hosea 6:3

Every nation carries a spirit. Some climates make it a constant struggle to maintain fire, worship, and study of the word. A missionary once shared that prayer in one nation broke through in three hours, while in another, seven hours of prayer felt like hitting a brick wall, because the spiritual climate itself was dry. No breakthrough comes in fasting, prayer, or study when the ground itself is dry. That climate of dryness is due to be broken.

  5. When There Is a Shortage of Spiritual Hunger and Passion

    Matthew 5:6, Psalm 42:1-2, Psalm 63:1-2

Hunger determines fullness. The reason believers do not carry the same measure of the Spirit is not because it is unavailable, but because the same level of hunger is not present. There are ancient wells of revival in North America that are due to flow again.

  6. When There Is Unproductive Spiritual Labor

This applies especially to those who labor in ministry without result, like sowing seed on dry, unwatered ground. Conviction for sin is lacking, conversion of souls is lacking, transformation of lives is lacking. When the rain of revival comes, the same labor that produced no fruit begins to germinate and explode.

  7. When There Is Minimal Evidence of the Reality of God

    Acts 1:8

A witness is an evidence producer. Believers are called to be proof producers, people whose lives require no defending of God because the evidence is visible. A life does not need to talk so much when what people can see in the family and the ministry is doing the talking. A messenger must carry the backing of the One who sent him; what is spoken must be confirmed, not merely claimed.

The Way of Revival

Hosea 10:12

  1. The Way of Repentance

Anywhere a person has hindered, stopped, or limited what God wanted to do, repentance clears the way. Most times, it is human beings who stand in the way of what God wants to do.

  2. The Way of Desperate Passion for the Move of God

Those who are comfortable with His absence will never experience His presence. There is no harvest where there is no interest; the harvests of a life are the products of that life's interest. Passion determines portion. Passion determines possession. Passion determines unction. The Bible said Jesus had the Spirit without measure, and believers are told they shall be filled — the reason all are not filled to the same level is that all are not hungry to the same level.

In 2 Kings 4, the prophet's widow was told to borrow empty vessels before oil could be poured. To be filled, a person must first be empty, empty of pride, of self-sufficiency, of satisfaction with present results. The moment a vessel is judged full, it is set aside; God has nothing further to do with what is already full. No matter how much anointing or result has come, continual emptying keeps a vessel usable.

  3. The Way of Seeking the Lord in Prayer

    Isaiah 62:6-7

Whether the need is personal, congregational, national, or generational revival, it is time to seek the Lord until He comes and rains righteousness upon the earth. Watchmen are called to give Him no rest, day or night, until He establishes His purpose in the land. It does not require hours from any one person; each person taking even a single hour keeps the watch unbroken.

  4. The Way of Love and Oneness

No one sees revival while walking in strife or competitive jealousy. That kind of competition, wanting bigger results just to prove superiority over others, is what historically killed past seasons of revival, as ministries competed over crowds, tents, and platforms instead of strengthening one another.

Where ministers have instead sharpened one another, reading each other's work, referring people to one another's platforms, iron has sharpened iron, and both were strengthened rather than diminished. That spirit of oneness, rather than rivalry, is what sustains a move of God.

A Closing Prayer

  • Lord Jesus, I come before You today.
  • I repent of every way I stood in Your way.
  • Father, I ask for fresh passion, fresh hunger for God in my life.
  • Father, I am seeking You at this place of prayer.

Inspiring Quote

Sermon

"One symptom of backsliding is that you begin to look down on the simple things that keep you on fire, calling a devotional 'just milk.' It's not about the information, it's about the consistency."
