No Influence More Powerful Than a Community

Mark Twain said: "The universal brotherhood of man is our most precious possession." You may think that money or your house is most precious. But the community is our most precious possession.

The community is God's priority. Write this down:

• There is no influence more powerful than a community.
• Community is the incubator of human development. You are what you are right now because of a community. They incubated you.
• The most important component in nation building is community. A nation is a collection of communities.
• The ultimate goal of God was to establish a heavenly community on earth. He did not want a religion, a religious club, or a theological fraternity. What God wanted on earth was a community of heaven.
• The community determines the quality of a nation. A nation can be no better than its communities. Whenever there is a national problem, you have to go back and study the community — because the community is the bedrock of the nation.

God Always Had Nations on His Mind

When God called Abraham, he had nations in mind. He told Abraham: "I will bless you and I will bless those that bless you, and I will curse those that curse you, and I will make you a blessing — and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed by you. For out of you shall come a nation."

Genesis 28:3-4: "May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of people."

Notice: God says, "I am going to bless you and multiply you — not because I want a religious group, but because I want a community."

In this, God expresses his ultimate passion. He tells us what his goal is for creating people: to cultivate a heavenly community on earth through his people.

Write this down:

• The original purpose and plan of God was to extend his heavenly kingdom to earth.
• His original vision was to colonize earth with the culture of heaven.
• The original goal of God was to establish a community of heaven on earth — people who would be distinctive, under a different cultural training, expressing a lifestyle unlike every other group around them.

Because his first community fell apart — his first community was disintegrated by sin — he is rebuilding his community on earth. And that is what he calls church. Church is a called-out group of people who are supposed to be under a different cultural training, under a different government, expressing a lifestyle distinctive from every other group around them.

Genesis 28:3-4: "May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase you until you become a community of people." He wanted a community.

Colonization: The Key Concept

The key to colonization is the transplanting and establishment of a kingdom community in a distant territory. When the British colonized the Bahamas, they did not send Bahamians from England — they sent British people. Every act of colonization requires the movement of people to a distant territory. Why? Because colonization requires the presence of a community that will influence the people in the territory to become like the kingdom they are from.

The Roman Empire perfected colonization. They would transplant at least 300 Roman citizens into a colony. Their job was to make the colony like Rome — to remove the culture from Rome, transplant it into the colony, so that the community would develop based on the culture of the kingdom that wanted to colonize.

Every former British colony feels the same. The same streets, the same tea in every restaurant, everyone speaking English. Wherever the community went, it stamped its mark.

Community is the product of common culture, and it is the ultimate means of kingdom expansion.

God's Colonization Plan

When God made the earth, the earth did not have heaven's culture. And God knew: if he wanted earth to look like heaven, he had to remove something out of heaven, put it in an earth suit, place it on the earth, and multiply it — until it becomes a community of people.

God could not get man from earth to make earth like heaven. He had to send man to earth to make earth like heaven. That is why he formed your body from the dirt, but he blew his spirit on the inside — so that you would have the nature of God on earth to fill the earth with the nature of God. The word nature is the same word kabod in Hebrew for glory. When the Bible says fill the earth with the glory of God, it simply means fill the earth with the culture of heaven until earth looks just like heaven.

The words of Jesus in the Lord's Prayer: Our Father who is in heaven — the home country. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. He wants earth to look like heaven.

Wherever you go, the community you belong to should stamp its mark. The Bahamas feels like England. Barbados feels like England. Guadeloupe is an island in the Caribbean that feels like France. The communities were influenced by a community from another kingdom.

Whoever Becomes Dominant Will Take Over

Community impact results in transformation of society and reformation of a nation. Whoever becomes the dominant community will take over the country — because their culture will become the controlling culture.

Pharaoh understood this. He told his people: these Hebrew slaves are multiplying faster than the Egyptians. He said, "They will become greater than we are, and their sons will take up arms and destroy us." In other words, if you are not careful, whoever becomes the largest and most dominant community will become the ruling power.

God said to mankind from the beginning: let them have dominion over the earth. God sent you here to become the dominant influence on earth — from heaven. There are supposed to be so many kingdom citizens multiplying in the world that you do not need to fight anyone. You just become the dominant culture.

You do not need a lot of people to create a community. God told two people: fill the earth. Once you have the capacity of reproduction, you are dangerous.

Daniel 7:14: "He has given authority, glory, and sovereign power to all peoples, nations, and men of every language — worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away."

Daniel 7 also says: "But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom and will possess it forever — yes, forever and ever."

The kingdom arrived 2,000 years ago. The devil has already lost. Whatever you are going through, you are coming through it — because the kingdom is forever and ever and ever.

The Church as Heaven's Colony

God's throne is in heaven. His colony is earth. He wants to rule earth as he rules heaven. You do not need to live in a place to rule it. The British ruled the Bahamas for over 200 years without the king living there — they sent a governor with citizens.

God did the same. Christ says: when you pray, pray like this — Our Father, who is in heaven. He is not on earth. He does not need to be here. He sent his governor — the Holy Spirit — and he has his citizens. And that is enough to rule earth.

Jesus said: "Wherever any two citizens touch and agree concerning anything on the earth, then it shall be done for them by our Father who is in heaven." God wants to rule the earth from heaven through a community of people from heaven who are in touch with heaven.

He says: "I have given you the keys — access to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you unlock on earth will be unlocked by heaven. Whatever you lock up on earth shall be locked up in heaven." He is staying in heaven. You are on earth. What you want done on earth, he will get done from up there. He is ruling earth the same way the British ruled the Bahamas — and he does not have to come here to get it done, because he has his children down here dominating the culture.

You and I are his culture in the earth.
